Post MAF Placebo?

Before I dish out 110 for the HPS tubes, owners or non owners chime in.....are these things a placebo effect or do you guys believe they work. Either dyno number or from a physics standpoint explain......Because the website makes this super convincing arguement and says a gain of like 6whp and 6tq these numbers seem HIGH but for 110 im in

They look nice and smooth out airflow...but I have yet to see a single dyno with this being the only variable

Same.

I think they're worth $110 just for cleaning up the engine bay though. If they smooth things out that's a bonus.

I'm in for a set whenever they're available again.

I went with a real intake. I believe these are placebo effect only. I don't see how replacing the upper part of the intake alone would increase any power unless you're changing out the filters for K&N too. $110 seems like a rip off IMHO. I think you'd be better off with just filters.

I picked up 3-5 throughout on top of the K&N's which added 6-10 here and there.

Intitially i thought it wasn't worth it, but careful reanalysis of my dynos changed my mind. Biggest gain was to peak torque right around 5K.

Someone claimed a gain of 12 for the tubes alone (not sure if on a dynojet), but I've noticed that the first breather mod always seems to make the most dramatic gain, and all subsequent gains are less for the same mod if it is bolted on 2nd or 3rd rather than 1st -- probably diminsihing returns as you approach optimal VE for the motor. VVEL tuning should open that up further...

Anyway, if you are on a budget, just do K&N filters and don't worry about the tubes.

yeah it isnt placebo effect or anything, just a nice, modest improvement for a totally reasonable price. they look great too!

:iagree:

Bodytechz 03-07-2011 10:17 AM

Is there a difference in sound with these tubes??

6spd 03-07-2011 04:29 PM

very slight, but yes.

Bodytechz 03-08-2011 08:20 AM

Thanks 6spd, I already ordered the K&N dropin's may as well go the extra mile with these tubes, I'll take any extra HP I can get and this looks like an inexpensive way to get it!

kensnismo 03-08-2011 12:06 PM

get in line the back order list is getting longer every day.wonder how many have to be ordered for them to go into production.

Bodytechz 03-08-2011 04:10 PM

Which brand of MAF tubes should I go with, HPS or Cobb?? or is there even a difference? :ugh2:

Not really any difference.
HPS are backordered and Cobb are discontinued though.

Ordered mine last Saturday and they are in my garage on my shelf right now.... putting them on tom evening.

Ran HKS filters with COBB post MAF's a while back, def felt looser.

One_Quick_Z 03-17-2011 09:01 AM

Yes they will help your car pull in the higher RPM's when paired with K&N air filters. They are a great/low cost part for an intake solution if you dont want to spend the 500 on a CAI and still want to see some results. Also satisfys the moding bug until you go FI Like myself.
