Filters require cleaning at around the 50,000 mile mark at the soonest.. You're likely to need to clean once, maybe twice for the time you'll own the car. And as others have stated, once you've removed the front bumper once or twice, it's literally a 10 minute process. There's nothing scary about it.

Agreed. I really don't understand why people get so freaked out about it. Maybe I should make a video showing how easy it is.

But for starters:

Are we gonna drive around without our bumper covers on? Of course not. So it's an interesting piece of trivia, but completely irrelevant as far as practical application goes. Just my opinion.

only thing I"d even consider doing is having two cutots on the bumper right in front of the intakes(tastefully done of course)............kind of like mines white one or forgot which car has that that I saw.....looks OK'ish if you can get over the part of hacking your bumper...lol..

I'm not sure hacking holes in your bumper for air intakes can be done tastefully. Sounds like some spring-cutting type of a job to me.

semtex 05-28-2009 07:42 PM

I wouldn't want those cutouts directly over or in front of the filters though, because then there'd be a risk of hydrolocking in a bad rainstorm. What might actually work better (in terms of less risk and being more tasteful looking) is popping out those little black plastic pieces next to the fangs in the front fascia, and having some sort of ducting/tubing that routes air from those slots right up to the filters. It'd be subtle looking, and functional (hopefully).

miguez 05-28-2009 08:01 PM

I think this is pretty tasteful, and it is not directly in front of the filters, so no risk of hydrolocking.

semtex 05-28-2009 09:15 PM

I don't think I could do that to my Z. Doesn't look good to me.

miguez 05-28-2009 09:16 PM

I'm planning on doing it. If so, I'll dyno before and after.

That would definitely work for a black car

miguez 05-28-2009 09:37 PM

Hmmm, I wonder who would have a black 370Z in my area.... :)

I had the exact same idea. I thought of making something that shoots air up to the intake and onto the brakes at the same time.

Maybe some one should make a kit hehe

semtex 05-29-2009 08:30 AM

I bet Modshack could do it. I'll PM him.

I'm on it! I plan to mount aluminum flanges behind the plate and at the feed through to the air box. Connect it all with very flexible Aeroduct hose and it should work pretty well. Hose routing looks feasible. It will be feeding air to the Boxes I just built:

Hey Steve, awesome man. Are you planning to dyno without then with to compare the gains?

Thanks,

Thanks Lou! Once I hack up your old airboxes and get the new ones mounted I'll start to play around some more.....I think the fresh air feeds are doable. I have a Scangauge mounted so I can monitor IAT's (Intake air temps). A stock car at stable cruise runs about 10 degrees over ambient. On other designs and cars I've played with, I've been able to get that down to a Zero differential..But it requires direct fresh air from outside the car to make that happen..

semtex 05-29-2009 10:03 AM

So...you're going to route from the slots next to the fangs to the stock airboxes, if I'm reading this right. I'm guessing it wouldn't be too hard to route to where the filters are with the Stillen setup, right?

Modshack 05-29-2009 10:05 AM

LOL....Ben..No reason you couldn't use a Manifold of sorts to pull air from the grill and point it at your Stillen Filters...

Here's a set-up I came up with for my old Audi where I needed to get air from the front of the car to the filter mouth...

Just 2 of those aluminum flanges and a bracket..I'll do some layout work for you when I'm in there...

Wow... I'm late... Those intakes made GOOD power. How does the car ride now?

that looks like some quality work

iceman21_23 07-25-2009 02:35 AM

does anyone have a diameter on the intake filters?
edit: nvm i see modshack is doing what i was thinking about doing lol

RCZ 07-26-2009 04:22 PM

Thread revival?

chris410 08-06-2009 04:14 PM

Sorry if this is a stupid question but I have to ask, will this be ok on an auto? I haven't found any info on what type of HP numbers the auto can sustain.

20RWHP is a big gain in power so I would like to know if anyone has info on whether this would work for an auto or not.

Thanks in advance!

FricFrac 08-06-2009 05:52 PM

For sure - no problem with the auto ;)

NewYorkJon34 08-06-2009 07:47 PM

Josh, what's up with the stillen G3 dyno in the September issue of DSport magazine, it only made 7whp? I thought it made more power then that ?

kdoske 08-06-2009 09:37 PM

hmm i thought it was 17, typo?

NewYorkJon34 08-06-2009 11:16 PM

Idk, typo or not, but they made it sound like the stillen yellow Z didn't make that much power

jookiyaya 09-12-2009 11:40 AM

well it did okay? move on! lol ^_^

JvKintheUSA 09-12-2009 02:30 PM

Nice job with the pics and vids!

GODchild02 09-17-2009 08:12 AM

i had a quck question. When you install the g3s does that void any part of the warranty?

G35guy84 09-17-2009 03:15 PM

I've had my intakes for about 3 weeks now, and since I got them I've noticed they make a short, deep "whistling" sound every time the transmission is about to change gears (upshift only). It almost sounds like a kid sucking through a big straw, and the sound only lasts for about half a second, but between each gear shift. I know you're supposed to hear a "shhhhhhh" sound as they suck air quickly, but is the whistle normal?

No, I don't think it's normal. That sounds kinda odd. I also have the G3s and I haven't noticed any sort of whistling. On the other hand, I can't really hear my intake at all due to my exhaust, so maybe I'm not the best person to render an opinion here. Would I be correct to assume you haven't done any exhaust mods yet?

u sure its not coming from the exhaust? Our exhausts make a hissing sound when you get off the throttle.

He doesn't have any exhaust upgrades installed yet. His sig says they're pending.

Correct. I don't have any exhaust mods yet and the whistle only started after I got the intakes installed. If you guys don't think it's normal, then I will have the guys check it out that installed the G3 when I go in to have the exhaust installed.

RCZ 09-17-2009 07:14 PM

They hooked up the little nubs on the side of the intakes?

ssqpolo 09-17-2009 07:32 PM

ya. i would get that checked. i mean mine kinda hisses, but thats cuz of the test pipes. open ur hood and have someone rev the car a little and try feeling for leaks.

ssqpolo 09-17-2009 07:33 PM

...if thats possible

unisonsports 09-17-2009 09:02 PM

hi guys, first time poster... Dyno results are awesome and all, but has there been any track testing? any improvement on 0-60 or quartermile with this? Also, I remember an intake for the 350z that improved HP on the dyno but lowered the cars top speed substantially due to lack of air at higher, more turbulant speeds - has this been an issue?
