The instructions tell you to put RTV on and then tighten screws finger tight and wait 1 hour and then tighten again. I neglected to follow those instructions and just put a bunch of RTV in there and tightened them down with a breaker bar and waited about 26 hours or so and then played with the car. As far as I can tell there is no more leaks. Sounds amazing and I got my torque back.

Hey foot. Did your Z throw SES P2a00 and P2a03?
I noticed the pics you posted only show a leak on one side. I checked the install on mine and there weren't anything loose or leaky gasket. |
Wondering if anyone's experienced my problem car throws a p2a00 after 2 weeks if being installed, if you get on it, it turns into a p0300 for random missfire, possible gasket just blew out so bad that the sensor is screwing with fuel trims and causing missfires?
|
I just got the P2A00 and P2A03 today. I have Motordyne's gaskets, and I believe my shop also applied some of the sealant too. I have noticed an increased amount of vibration in my shift lever during lower RPMs, and the hiss (which used to be hardly noticeable) can be clearly heard on decel for a solid 1000RPMs. Not exactly sure what's going on.
I reset the codes with my UpRev, but I'll be taking it to my shop hopefully this week to look for a leak and pray that my O2 sensors haven't been damaged. |
If you are getting a code, try this...
Inside the O2 sensor bung steel wool is packed inside. This steel wool is stuffed in to help reduce the occurrence of CEL's by reducing the sampled exhaust gas exchange rate to the sensor. Try this. "IF" and only if you have a O2 sensor CEL, remove some or all of the steel wool in the O2 sensor tube. Some sensors may need to see a higher exhaust gas exchange rate to stay happy. Its easy to do. Just take out the O2 sensor and pull out the steel wool with a hook shaped wire. Reset the ECU and drive like you always do. |

Update on the exhaust.
Its on the 370Z now. The base structure is done and several configurations have been tested with resonators placed at different locations. So far I found the location that works best. There is no rasp, no drone, no hissing and no rattle snake sounds. The right resonator location has been found, but what I would like to do now is experiment with a different size and type resonator at this location to listen for the effect on sound. I could post sound clips of it now but I'm not completely happy with it just yet. I will be attending the SEMA convention in Las Vegas this week so I won't be able to do the experiments this week but I will start again next Monday. Motordyne will remain open for business while I am out and I will stay in contact via email, PM's and this forum. Tony |

Hope you had fun at SEMA. Looking forward to seeing this new exhaust, sound clips, dyno #s, etc! |
The SEMA convention is awesome. So much so that I wish all you guys could see it.
If you think hanging out in a Z forum is fun. Multiply it 10,000X for the SEMA convention. SO MUCH NEW TECHNOLOGY AND VERY COOL CARS OF ALL MAKES AND MODELS. |
Steel wool was removed and code is cleared just now. Wish me luck!

Tony sneak peak of the exhaust? Will there be custom tip options? |
Been a week since SEMA. In for those exhaust updates!

A little hint on some of the design concept. Helmholtz Tuning! |
Looking good Tony :yum: Don't keep us waiting for too long :icon17:
|
I had a feeling the exhaust would make use of Helmholtz resonance. Torque should be pretty incredible with this then.
|
Can't wait to hear this paired with art pipes.

Did I miss a mention of a ball park price?

It's basically exactly what I always look for in the sound of my exhaust - toned and not obnoxious. I hate nice cars that sound like ricers - we simply don't have motors that are refined and nice enough to be left to sing on their own like a lot of modern day V8s and especially supercar V10 and V12s are. |

Not really a fan of the high-pitched "Japanese" sound. |
The Motordyne exhaust system for the 350z was pretty good, hope it will be similar to that. Bassani was working on a system for the 370z but never heard back from them.
|
Why does everyone always take fisheye photos nowadays. lol.
In for entire exhaust system pics on a car and sound clips, and if possible dynos and ball park pricing ;) |
Will it be a dual muffler setup like HKS?
|
I believe Tony has alluded to that, yes. Instead of having two separated muffler canisters, there will be one central one that'll go where the OEM is housed. Whether or not it'll have a dual look like the HKS or an encased one like Invidia, we don't know. But, if a glass pack is being used to prevent drone and excessive vibrations, it'll be an encased muffler like Invidia.
We shall see. That's just speculation. |
Its not just one.
There are 3 completely different modular groups. Variations are from mild to wild. |

There will be three different versions of this exhaust!? :O
Why must you tease us so, dammit? I want to hear a sound clip, at least. :( |
hmm... new exhaust in my future?

will it work for vq35hr?

Growing tired of waiting on this exhaust.

I gave up last month and went with an FI.
After mine is turbo then I might consider them again if there's a 3" version. |

2 systems are complete. Its the 3rd one that is being difficult.

Had a Shockwave V2 system on my 350... by far the best sounding exhaust system I've heard on a Z car. I can't wait to get one for my 370... Tony builds QUALITY stuff!!
