NISMO Exhaust

Trying to identify if there any increases with the NISMO exhaust.

I plan on getting the Berks HFC's to go with the NISMO exhaust.

Anyone with this set-up?

jaxchuck 04-17-2009 07:08 AM

A shop in Georgia dynoed the Nismo exhaust with a test pipe and got a gain of 1 HP

Endgame 04-17-2009 08:46 AM

which shop? any dyno graphs to prove/disproove this?? I find that hard to believe....

shabarivas 04-17-2009 09:42 AM

why so hard to believe? was there a tune done? there are MANY cases where Z and G owners find 1 2 or even -1 to -5 hp increase...

jaxchuck 04-17-2009 10:11 AM

I left off the name of the shop/vendor since they have their own dyno but sell the Nismo exhaust and were kind enough to share their results with me when I emailed them privately about my exhaust purchase. They also told me that without a testpipe they expected a 5-10 HP gain but had not done a dyno on the Nismo system with stock cats to back this up.

I find it hard to believe Nismo's CB would not have ANY gains or loose power. Did a G owner test a Z's Nismo catback???

Are you saying the Nismo catback's expected gain (per the shop) was 5-10 HP? I guess I am curious to know what the Nismo catback alone would do. I see no reason to expect it to be anything less than the 10-15 HP gains other CBs are getting.....

Maybe I am missing something...

I ended up buying the NISMO exhaust at purchase. I had to wait a week for the system to come in. I noticed a significant difference from the stock to the NISMO.

But really to make the plumbing clean and crisp HFC are a must and are pending for me but I am holding off just at the moment.

I am waiting to see which HFC - Cobb tuning use to create there up and coming remap device. Matter of fact I am holding off on any CAI for the same reason.

I like the NISMO exhaust, they look like cannons from the rear. Love it. Sound is just perfect.

355890 - What difference did you notice? Was it Power? Sound? or Both??

Minicobra1 04-17-2009 02:25 PM

Idle, you can barely tell a difference, driving around normally and shifting at say 3500 rpm it's just a slight increase over the stock sound. It's very mellow. As well as cruising steady rpm, street or freeway, again very mellow bump in tone/sound over stock. There is a big difference in sound/tone at WOT, it really comes to life, not super aggressive, but you know it's not a stock exhaust. I haven't dynoed yet, but my gut feeling is that it added another 10-15hp above 5K RPM and Peak. I'm currently trying to decide on HFC's, I'm leaning toward the Berks, but wish I could here someone that has a NISMO + BERKS.

I too have the exhaust. Fit and finish is fantastic, but it is like others have said, a bit too quiet around town. I do hope this exhaust does not have issues with HFC's, my 350Z Nismo catback cracked 3 different brands of HFC's, all within 2-3k miles of each other. The Y-pipe was the culprit, and this one looks similar in build/style. Someone want to be the first tester with this?

Power = Yes I believe so...especially when getting the revs up, but then again it's like the cake without the icing. HFC's are a must for proper power increases with a remap. So I would consider it an incomplete set-up at the moment. But like I said I am interested in the bolt-ons that Cobb tuning will use to create this remap.

Sound = To me and what I liked about it...was it had a more European sound. Which is what I wanted. I am used to European cars. I wasn't looking for something overly loud and humming in the cockpit. Remember it is a very small area.

So if you want something loud and crazy then this exhaust is not for you.

Excellent! Just what I am looking for in an exhaust. I don't want it to be annoying, just in case I have a client or my boss with me when he is in town... But do want it to wake me up at WOT.

Great. Thanks for the feedback guys...

Excellent. I will be getting the BERKS. How much did you pay for the install of the HFC portion only ( labor ).

Also I assume no joining problems with the NISMO to speak of????

The nismo only gains about 5 hp.

I had other things installed as a package price, but I would say $100 on the low side and $150 on the high side. It's about a 1.5 to 2 hour job.

Where can I buy a nismo exhaust? Also, compared to a stillen exhaust, which one do you think is better? (reliability.. ect)

You can order from any of the Vendors on this site, PM them for the best pricing.
As far as reliability is concerned, that's to be seen, know one has had them installed for more then a few months. I think it will come down to the type of Tone you are looking for. Watch the videos in the exhaust sound thread, this will help you decide.

black09Z 05-03-2009 02:04 PM

why are you so suprised? its NISMO dude. if you can get it from the factory its not gonna be that great. (doesnt sound that great to me either) get the stillen or 5zigen. just my opinion

frost 05-03-2009 02:07 PM

It's a lot of money for something that advertises 5hp when others comparably priced are advertising 3x that.

black09Z 05-04-2009 10:16 AM

my point exactly especially since stillen (15hp increase. that 10 more than nismo) is cheaper and sounds better than the nismo. hmmm kinda seems like a no brainer. unless you just want to be able to say "i have nismo!" which i dont think is something to bragg about. thx frost

kgreen 05-04-2009 10:41 AM

like minicobra said, it depends what your looking for. if your looking for tone then minicobra has the best combo IMO but if your looking for numbers then go with stillen. guys dont automatically assume he wants numbers. maybe he does, maybe he doesnt....but both are great exhausts!

black09Z 05-04-2009 01:49 PM

i dunno why youd want to pay over a thousand dollars on something without getting something out of it. i mean if you just want sound i could record myself driving when i get my exhaust on this week and send it to you for free, and you could just play it through the speakers on repeat as your driving. lol. j/k
