“Orpheus” receives Berk HFC - New Sound Clip!
Hi ,
My hell and back “Black Orpheus” received it's Berk HFC today , to be installed tomorrow by my local Nissan dealer. I’m preparing "Orpheus "for a solo sketch and photo safari, to acquire new and fresh reference material for new compositions for my art work, possible new book. This will be a cross country trip starting from Key West Florida to Los Angeles, California. This will be an artistic route 66 type of adventure from a masters artist prescriptive, on the spot sketches and photo's ! I'll have more details concerning my trip on a separate post soon. Please visit my website alexcastro.com Thanks, Alex P.S. Sponsors would be appreciated, I will be promoting products that work on the trip , no punches pulled ! Please PM me thanks. http://fvntsw.blu.livefilestore.com/...058.jpg?psid=1 http://public.blu.livefilestore.com/...063.jpg?psid=1 http://public.blu.livefilestore.com/...064.jpg?psid=1 http://public.blu.livefilestore.com/...065.jpg?psid=1 http://public.blu.livefilestore.com/...066.jpg?psid=1 |

Wow, I can't believe you put those cats on your hood. You will be very happy when the car is running with the Berks.

Believe me I'm pretty careful about "Orpheus's hood! Can't wait till tomorrow, be at the dealers at 7:30 am! Thanks , :tiphat: Alex http://fvntsw.blu.livefilestore.com/...074.jpg?psid=1 http://public.blu.livefilestore.com/...072.jpg?psid=1 |
thats an amazing car man, no doubt. I'm looking forward to seeing the progress of your trip, one word of advice, buy a pack of microfiber towels and some Turtle Wax Bug Remover, thats a long way to drive and poor Orpheus will be adorned with the extinguished lives of millions of earths critters and you'll need to get them off right away before they eat through your clear coat.

Not to be a jackass, but it is Berk not Berks or Berk's yes it can be used possessively but unless the OP's name is Berk it does not work as he is the owner.... sorry. Not trying to be rude or anything it just bugs me. Also, if i am wrong please, please correct me.
Very nice, surprised anyone would put anything regardless of what is under it on their hood. |

Thanks for the compliment , coming from you it's really appreciated. :tiphat: Yup, I'm working on a bug strategy. Thanks, Alex |

Memorylasts, You are correct, made corrections. Thanks for the heads up. :tiphat: Alex |
Wow!
The sound is simply awesome! Sound in this case will speak louder than words I’ll let the Stillen CBE / Berk HFC combo, do the taking!:happydance: YouTube - MOV05008 That being said the Stillen / Berk combo produces a very unique and distinctive sound that for me sounds just right not too low or over the top, but just perfect IMO! My Nissan mechanic Martin came away with a big grin saying” Ok you’re winning me over with this one , you know I’m the OEM type, but this sounds great thru most the rpm range and no notable hiss or drone", however he did say the demon bolts had to be heated, 2 hours from start to finish, he was also every impressed with the overall fit and quality of the Berk HFC, noting that it was just a bit larger in diameter than the Stillen “Y” pipe , finally he told me it would get a little deeper and louder in a few more driving cycles.:driving: Last words to any on the fence about Stillen CBE / Berk HFC combo is hard to beat at any price, this is a proven winner in gains and sound, this exhaust may not be the newest or the hottest bolt on out there or have the prettiest welds, or ideal tips for some, and by far not the most exotic exhaust , but its designed by a race car pro to preform and sound IMO the way a true spots car should and that it does !! Wow, thanks Stillen CBE, Berk HFC! :tiphat: Alex |
Alex, that sounds really good. Much more aggressive than the CBE alone. Glad to hear that the install went reasonably well - 2 hours doesn't sounds bad (or expensive).
Do you notice any increase in power? I know the first exhaust mod usually produces the most, but wondered what the ol' butt dyno is telling you. |

The Berk HFC has really changed the dynamics of this exhaust, Orpheus feels like a beast from down under when I step on it, but very tame when not, that being said at idle Orpheus has also developed a dark, almost sinister low growl “lol” that I really like. Orpheus does seem peppier across most the RPM band, and a bit more responsive at the throttle, I can now say I’m done with this end of my mods, this is what I wanted to hear. Can’t wait to drive it some more and allow it to mellow out and get even better!:driving: Hope you get you stuff from F.I. soon, I’ve been keeping taps on new F.I. postings hoping to see some good news for you regarding you ordered exhaust, keep me posted. Alex http://fvntsw.blu.livefilestore.com/...075.jpg?psid=1 Orpheus with Stillen CBE and stock Cats. |
sounds great, makes me miss mine :(

How do they differ, in your opinion now that you have had both exhaust on your car? I know a lot of this is subjective , but I like to know what your thoughts are now on these two good but very different "X" and "Y" types exhaust systems? Thanks,:tiphat: Alex |
Quote:
The Stillen exhaust is just as good as any other, I think that combined with the HFC's, its the best sounding system at idle/WOT. Although it is a bit heavier than the other options. The thing I liked most about it is the fact that it looks more stock than the others, I've never been a fan of round mufflers because I'm a purist and I associate fart cans with Honda Civics/RSX's and the like. The only difference between an X/Y pipe is the sound, AND THATS IT. Anyone that says one or the other offers more power is full of shyt. My first exhaust mod was the Berk HFC's, I did an independent dyno with them and seen gains of 15whp, in the end, while it sounded better than stock, I wanted a louder system, so I added the Stillen. Now with these cars, it seems the first exhaust mod nets the most gains, so with cats/cbe combo, you probably gained between 18-20whp. I can understand how happy you are with your setup, I was in love with mine from day one, but in the end, two seats became impractical for me, so I decided to get the Mustang, keep the power that I love and gain two seats (Ford as a company is also more "mod" friendly than Nissan, they almost seem to encourage it.) Enjoy the road trip. |
Oh, just wanted to add something, I was rolling with the same setup you have now and to me, it felt like I lost quite a bit of my low end torque (breathing mods tend to do that w/o a tune), if you're looking to further gain some power, look into getting a tune, whether it be using UpRev or a Cobb Accessport, you'll know what i'm talking about the minute you load it up, i picked up a shitload of torque and gained throttle response as a bonus

A tune is in the works, want to just but some miles on Orpheus for now , just to get everything broken in and following , get a real feel for the car and mods! Next up will be Stillen Sway bars , Grounding kit and KW veriant 3 Coilover. 3M Clear bra. After that Orpheus is going stealth "lol" :bowrofl:with either the Blinder M7 X -Treme or the Laser Interceptor ? Standard equipment for my cross country trip! I'll be posting on the trip soon! Thanks, Alex |

Thanks a lot Red370, will certainly give your comments some thought. I was surprised by my wife at a resent car show , she could take it or leave it at most car shows , but a Shelby Cobra not sure the year looked pretty new, caught her attention, let me tell you this car was gorgeous! Oh well! Good luck with the Mustang I’m sure with your car know-how you’ll make any car a winner. Alex |
Here's a final sound clip.
After driving around and I mean driving  with the Stillen CAI, CBE / Berk HFC combo the last two days, I'm just amazed at the butt gains so far, but mostly that wonderful roar, and exhaust note from low to top end, and to think it’s going to get a bit louder and deeper is in a few more driving cycles is amazing!
Here's a final sound clip. YouTube - MOV05014.AVI Enjoy Alex |
Glad you got your HFCs and you're happy with them!

Alex has been MIA since he installed those bad boys. He must be halfway across the country by now!

I have been MIA for a while.

Damaged the car couldn’t stop in time when a deer popped out of nowhere, my rear end started walking around me causing the car to cut off from the violent spinout , scrapped the side of the car against a guard rail . It’s not till you experience your diving talent limitations and that of the car I guess, that you understand to fast is just too fast on some roads, I over reacted on a winding road with almost no shoulder and a lot of blind spots, that even on a good day could be dangerous and unforgiving ! :shakes head: That being said, I was damn lucky no one was coming and no one got hurt. I just picked up the car from the auto body shop , just some minor cosmetic stuff on the driver’s side ,that being said, I had them go over the whole car. “Orpheus” looks better than new, see pictures below. I guess the only thing that got really bruised besides “Orpheus” was my driving ego!:icon14: Rob, I stopped listening to my Stillen CBE and your Berk HFC since the accident, I'm only listen to "Classical" music now seems to be working.”lol” Thanks , Alex P.S. Dave , congratulations, how is that new F.I. CBE coming along, I’m sure it has changed the whole disposition of the car and driving experience, hope your enjoying it ! :driving: http://public.blu.livefilestore.com/...084.jpg?psid=1 http://fvntsw.blu.livefilestore.com/...091.jpg?psid=1 http://fvntsw.blu.livefilestore.com/...093.jpg?psid=1 |
Alex, glad to hear you are OK and Orpheus wasn't badly damaged. Deer, a little extra throttle and windy PA roads are a bad combination! Car looks great, BTW.
I'm loving the FI exhaust. I do still listen to the iPod, but not all the time. That sound just sucks me in! You'll hear me coming from a bit of a distance next time we're at a car show. Just curious: what tires are you running? What kind of shape are they in? Wondering if they helped or hurt in your efforts to miss the deer. |

How does the car feel and sound to you over stock now? Would you say your gains are mid or in the high range RPM band, has it impacted your low range much ? Any pictures ,sound clips of your new F.I. CBE ? Thanks, Alex P.S. Any plans for HFC? :stirthepot: |
