Anyone disconnected the Battery Negative Cable as the instructions state? Is this Critical or can I skip this step?

tjlazer 11-28-2011 02:20 PM

you can skip it, but the car will have to take a longer time to relearn the change so you might not get the benefit of the newly installed HAI. ;) Usually the computer will relearn it as you drive, a few hungred miles or so. That is what I did.

Thanks for the feedback - I was reading all kindsa warnings about having to go back to the dealership to get some anti-theft codes and what have you - not too keen on doing that. Not too worried about my radio stations otherwise! :tiphat:

UPDATE on Intake Tube Hoses!

Anybody else run into this one?

I was attempting to install a set of K&N short intakes on my car this afternoon ('10 370z Tour/Sport), and everthing was going fine until it was time to connect the new intake tubes to the valve cover vents.
K&N thinks the hoses are one size, when in reality they are another size (i.e the hoses that they gave me are too small to fit on the valve cover vent connectors).
Anybody else run into this or have any suggestions??

And of course, now I have to spend part of tomorrow putting everything back to stock

Update: Saturday, 9/11/10
The key is 3 tries, a little bit of extra knowledge, boiling water, and liquid soap.
Before attaching the 1/2" hose to the 5/8" vent covers, put a little bit of liquid soap on the outside of the vent cover, and soak one end of the hose in boiling water for about a minute. You still have to work fast, but it can be done.

I just installed my Typhoon last night (11/28/11) - No issue with fitment of any of the hoses at all - no hot water, no soap, no trickery of any kind. All the hoses fit perfectly into whatever they were being connected to. I think K&N must have heard the cries of agony and remedied the problem with their new kits.

I just installed. Disconnected the negative battery terminal. Lost my radio station presets ....

I also lost the the power window programming. Windows on both doors were not resealing up after opening and closing the door. I had to go to dealer and get the program reset.... This may happen to you beware. Good luck.

Still observing the changes from the Typhoons. Now about 200 miles since install. Seems more powerful above 4000 rpm. May have also a slight bump open highway mileage while cruising. Well worth the $$$. Looks good in the engine compartement too...:tiphat:

How about re-programing the ECU? is there a need to do this?
So its ok to not disconnect the battery terminal?

Windows

I just installed my CAI and I disconnected the Battery like a retard, and now my windows don't go all the way up. Is there a way to fix this yourself or do I gotta go to Nissan and have them reset it?

with ignition on and doors closed, roll drivers window all the way down, then roll up and hold it up for 5 seconds. repeat for passenger window and you have just reset your windows. You really need to use the seach function on the forum as this is probably the most asked question on the forum.

hello,
I apologize for the mistakes ... I installed K & N but I do not know if you need to disconnect the battery! You have to or not? If you need this for how long? Are any problems after disconnecting? Now is loud but no sound of air ... without ssss. There is no sound of air at high speed: (
Thanks for your help
