Dyno quirks - three cars with mods and no gains show on dyno, gotta be the heat!
 

So James (Z1804), Daisuke and I re-dyno'd our cars last Saturday and its funny because we did not show any significant gains on the dyno per se for any of us. He had Stillen Gen 3 intakes installed, Dai had a full catback exhaust (Ebay) and I had a 2.5" full Fast Intentions x-pipe going to the stock muffler and tips since my previous dyno.

We could all tell though that each of our cars were pulling significantly harder than before. However, the difference in the temps and humidity though was from 84 degrees and 30% humidity on the first dyno day to Saturday's 104 degrees with about 74% humidity.

Interesting to see how much difference the temps and humidity make for power output. I drove the car later at night when it was about 85 degrees and less humid and it was a whole different animal. Dai and James noticed the same thing to a large extent.

Put all the mods on one car a see if you have any gains.

Playing with an online hp calc, those atmospheric condition differences could cause 5-6% hp drop.

thats interesting stuff, didnt kow humidity would do that. I know I lost some HP by going from GA to TX due to being higher in the air now. Mile high here.

More humidity, higher altitude, and greater heat all mean less available oxygen, and therefore less power.

Just curious, but are you giys looking at SAE corrected numbers -- won't necessarily compensate, but should give you a better idea what you were putting down.

it was so hot and humid that day it was hard for me to breathe, i can only imagine what it's like for a car trying to put down #'s.

I'm sure it does matter. I just did another dyno after adding a CAI and only got 5hp increase. And it was about 20 degrees hotter. Would like to see what it puts down at the same cooler temps but I ain't paying another $60 to see. Gonna put on my CBE and HFC for the next one!

Since Stillen claim and 18 hp gain which I don't believe. I really wanted to see what the actual gain was. I estimated 10 hp. I'll dyno it again next week before installing my Boombop Shop Exhaust.

going by when we both did our baseline, we had similar numbers..

if all else is equal then (tho there will be variances)

the Exhaust showed similar gains / results in the top end as the Gen III. Going to have to compare how the full curve goes for us both old vs new.

and yeah. can def feel a big boost in the way it pulls.

SAE correction is not gonna do much in that heat, agreed.

I saw almost identical numbers when I dyno'd in the heat a few weeks back after a Gen3 install. Waste of my time and money that day for sure. Then again if the numbers were correct, I have a nice power gain from the Gen3s, all things considered.

If a CAI is installed as the first mod, you will see dramatic gains. Same thing if you dyno after any "first mod". Everything else is incremental.

till you get the SC or TT mod

Actually thats all James had done was the Gen 3 install and he had like 1hp gain from the last dyno peak and little to no gains throughout, again its due to the heat and humidity.

If the loss is 4% to 5% reasonably for the atmospheric changes, then we all should be right on the money for gains. 276whp with 4.5% added in would be about 288-289whp which makes sense for a full exhaust or Gen 3 install up from baseline of 276-277whp.

I'm not going to dyno again though until its a reasonable 80ish degrees, now that I got rid of that crap OEM muffler. It feels like the same gains I got with the X-Pipe added in again with straight through Magnaflows added and the rear muffler gone. Hoping for 285-290whp, it definately is fast now.
