This was at 11,000mi. My Z gave me a big hug after I changed them.

Got my new OEM filters here:

Wow, I need to look at mine!

My intakes and filters were a mess after I drove from GA to TX. So yea keep em clean so she can breath.

m4a1mustang 07-09-2010 09:32 AM

Yup... they get dirty reallly quick.

I generally look at mine and blow them off after 1k miles or so, to pick out any debree and leaves that get stuck. Running HKS filters now though.

After 2k with my KN's I almost removed a tea spoon of debris...
P.s. Modshack's "fang vent" doesn't help the keep the engine bay clean either!

What is the recommended mileage to change the filters?

I'll clean my K&N's at 20,000 miles. You guys with the paper filters, sheesh.

dlmartin81 07-10-2010 11:52 AM

Yeah, I cleaned mine yesterday after putting 14K on the car.....and it did make a difference in performance/responsiveness. The filters were a bit dirty and had a few helicopters (those flat 2-3 inch long things that fall from trees and look like helicopters as they're falling) in the filter fins, which required fishing out. There was also a big leaf in the left intake duct.

ill check it tommrow lol wow

fullmonty 07-11-2010 01:15 AM

Ya I gota check mine

TongMan 07-11-2010 02:02 AM

I'll change mine on my second oil change and thereafter.

370zproject 07-11-2010 08:20 AM

what kind to switch to?

ROC1ROB 07-11-2010 08:21 AM

At least look at them at every oil change. Most time I clean them, but it depends on the driving that I did. It makes me feel like I just spend $500 bucks on a new intake.

I'm happy with using the same OEM filters. Having cleaned out my house vacuum enough times (wife refuses to vacuum), I know that you can never get a filter as clean as when it was new. So, I'd rather buy paper filters than something reusable. It would be interesting to test airflow through the K&Ns after, say, 3 cleanings and compare it to new.
