Identify this part - rear Emission canister shield?

Well, I just randomly looked under the car today and found out that this metal cage is really close my exhaust canister. As a matter of fact, it's rubbing against my right exhaust canister!

So I send HKS USA an email and believe me or not, I got a reply within 2 hours from them! They basically reminded me of the rear emission canister shield and asked me to remove it. I'm just curious, is this it? The local exhaust shop that put my exhaust on, didn't tell me anything about removing this shield.

Currently my car /\

I'm just making sure that's okay to remove. Maybe HKS owners can chime in?

It's only a fuel line cover. Mine were removed for the FI install and the lines covered with heat resistant tape. :)

Thanks. The guy who installed my exhaust was a total idiot. The whole time he was on the phone arguing with his gf :shakes head:. He never looked at the instruction manual.

No Problem. :tiphat:

AK you should've told him to pay more attention to your bitch while he working on it, instead of arguing with his bitch..

vipor 06-15-2010 08:25 AM

I start wondering why there is no fuel cover on my factory Z. Its seems that its safe not to have it. You can see the steel cover stop the heat from flowing to my fuel line. Refer to the picture below.

So all in all, that black piece AK pointed out is the "Emission canister shield"? and needs to be removed for a proper installation??

Thanks!

YES and YES! It's held by three 10 mm bolts. I had the exhaust shop take it out. NO more rubbing.

m4a1mustang 06-15-2010 03:56 PM

So that's what it is. I was in my basement the other day cleaning up and saw that part laying on the floor. I was like, "wtf is this piece of sh1t?" It's been so long since I installed my exhaust! :D

I'm starting to believe there is absolutely nothing that you can't find on this forum! And occassionally you even find things you wish you hadn't but that's what I get for going Premium. :)

im getting a rattle at the back from that cover (going to remove it)and at the Y pipe and ideas

Stillen headers, Kinetic hfc, HKS cbe

Spec Jay 05-19-2011 07:56 PM

wonder if its possible to just dent it in or cut and weld in a plate to get rid of that corner.

jazz 05-20-2011 07:23 AM

im going to see if they can grind an inch off the corner...if not rip it out.

Sorry for bumping an old thread... But for you guys have removed the heat shield, did you guys wrap the fuel lines with tapes or just left it as it is? If so any side effect? Does the Fast Intentions requires to remove the heat shield too? Thanks.

Yes you remove the shield for Fast Intentions and they supply heat tape to wrap the line. No issues at all.

Good to know. THanks.:tiphat:

... or you could remove the whole EVAP can. This will give you SES lights if you're not reflashed though. Also, won't pass visual emissions tests. I made a DIY EVAP removal thread.
