Gas mileage improved by 5~6
 

My first tank of gas from the dealer averaged 11~12 MPG. Since then I've installed a G3 CAI and used nothing but Chevron 91. Is this possible or maybe my tripOdometer is spazzing? Can someone shed some light on this?

I drive the same amount of miles everyday. Same freeways, local streets. I have about 1250 miles on it.

your ECU is adapting (amongst other parts breaking in) to the operating conditions so first tank is usually poor mpg... then things get better from there.

not sure about CAI.... usually they help because cars are programmed to run pretty rich in factory form.

You get better milage the more you break in the engine

So it's pretty normal huh? I've never paid this much attention to my other cars.

11-12 mpg???? do you redline every shift or something? that is low.

I had the same thing. First week or so, 16mpg maybe. Reset the mileage gauge, drove some highway miles. It's been in the 20's ever since.

Never passed 5k RPM for the first tank of gas.

i do half highway half city, total of 52 miles a day... shift from 5-6k and get 19-20 mpg.

11 is low dude....low rider low.

Yeah! I average 19 mpg with bumper to bumper city driving!

Is this something I should be concerned about? All this time I was thinking wow! great improvement from 11~12.

I don't think its a thing about concern as much as you are doing something wrong... you might be holding a gear at high rpms for a long period of time...

reset that part of the trip computer and start fresh... you should be able to easily hit 18mpg.

because at this rate you get what 187-200 miles to the tank?? i average about 300-320 miles to the tank...

yeah, this is pretty bad mileage lol...are you racing to every location you go to LOL? i avg about 19-21 mixed driving, and i have a pretty decent lead foot. i think i've hit 16mpg, but that's with extremely spirited driving....at 11-12, you must be goin balls to the wall 24/7.

Yeah I get about 210 per tank. I think you're right, I'm not use to this automanual. I should drive it in auto for a change and see how it improves.

lol... 11~12 was my first tank. I average about 16~17 MPG now. I think Chupa hit it dead on tho... I blast the music and use the tiptronic and sometimes I forget I'm using tiptronic doh! Which means I stay at higher RPM more then I'm supposed to.

that might be part of it, but even when i drive in manual mode with my auto, i dont think it dips that low...that is unless you're not shifting until 7500rpm, which i could see the mileage hitting what it is.

Not that much... I know I tend to hold for a long period of time in 4~5k but not @ 7500 for sure.

If you want to know actual mileage, fill up the tank, drive, fill up tank, divide miles by gas=mileage. Don't use the gauge as your true numbers.
It sounds to me like the gauge was reset somewhere in the middle of a tank anyway. You'd have to work VERY hard to get mileage that low.

You would have to floor it every where to get 13, that mileage is just awful

Did you sit with the car idling a lot? That would hurt your mpg.

I started at 11 and now with 3500 miles I'm at around 19. It is what it is

Not idle but I do live in Los Angeles so constant break and gas.

So it's not unsual to start with low MPG and improve... That a relief.

ya it's the motor getting loose.

im making 450hp and when i beat on it i get a min of 16 mpg avg. so ya your good.

Prior to my tune, that was the same MPG I was getting. I'm up around 14 MPG since then.

It does get much better once you get out of LA.

^^^ that's really low even for stop-and go traffic... granted I don't live in LA... but I cross 17 miles Commercial which is a parking lot, and still manage 15-16mph.

Since the Z has a mph meter, I can see what my average speed is, and it rarely gets above 16 or 17 mph in my daily driving. Keep in mind that you're burning fuel when you are stopped, which is quite often in LA. I could certainly drive the car like a granny and get better mpg, but I also don't drive like a maniac... most of the time I shift between 3-4k rpm.

Yeah... I lived in Burbank for 3 years then moved out to Korea Town. Horrible traffic and bad drivers. lol

Burbank has better roads with less potholes too.

bro i live in downtown los angeles...and i take the 10 fwy to and back from school...I average waaaayy better that 11~12 mpg, but then again i also have a manual...but you situation sounds shitty- sorry to hear

11 to 12 was my very first tank of gas. 16to 17 after and since I stared this thread Ive been driving auto mode and now average 18~19

Lucky bastard... Korean women are one of my faves, I can't imagine being surrounded by them 24/7 :yum:

I get much better mileage on the freeway... if it's really flowing well, it gets closer to 20 mpg.

Oh yeah the women are delicious and the food is great lol. But yeah I've dated mostly korean girls and trust me its not all gravy. Some of them are crazy as hell! My last ex trashed my house and threw all my clothes out into the streets and told me to get out... It was my damned house!!! :owned:

Just filled up with Shell gasoline. My first fill up since owning the car. I got 403 miles to the tank. Filled up 16.460 gallons. MPG is 24.xx. Not bad.
