Cool guys thanks. My finished mod would be the Cobb and the k&n so I'm mainly looking for feedback on those two things paired together. I'm not looking for huge gains or anything special, just a nice mod that looks good, performs good, is somewhat stock and easy to upkeep. For around 200 bucks (Cobb amd drop ins) I'm hoping it will be a nice addition lol. My birthday is next week and I was looking into getting this as a gift but didn't want my family to totally waste money if you guys know what I mean. Thts why I started this thread, for good feedback from people with valued opinions and experience

Happy Bday, enjoy the Z

These are all show and no go IMO. :)

Wow. thats a rough statement. A lot of people on here got nothing but good things from the K&N's, so they arent just for show. and possibly added to the COBBS might make a nice little setup, but that is why i started this thred in the first place

Oh. I was just talking about the Cobb tubes. Sorry. :)

They will absolutely not make any difference.

I honestly don't think you're going to "notice" a difference. There has to be small improvements in flow though as smooth wall tube will obviously flow better than a corrugated one that would tend to disrupt smooth flow. Generally, a series of small improvements often add up to measurable gains, but just this one will not be a $100 kick in the pants. I've done both the Cobb and Generic 45 degree 2.75 elbows, but they've been in concert with my custom CAI mods...I didn't notice any change when I went from the stock hoses to the smooth walled silicone (both with my filters installed)

Generic hoses with custom PCV line take-offs on my car (before the Cobb's were available):

you and another member said you used stock maf tubes. What do you mean? Did you cut the maf out of the airbox or get a replacment?

Ya, is that smog legal especially in California? Where did you purchase the filter covers?

snowsurfdirtx 07-02-2013 06:56 PM

honestly I dont know why you'd do anything other than true CAI (G3s, etc) or just do post maf tubes (since the stock intake is technically a true cold air, it takes air from outside the engine bay) and pairs nicely with K&Ns. you connect the post maf tubes to the MAF body itself.

My original set-up used stock MAF tubes, cut from a spare OEM box

I fabricate an intake for Audi's and VW's. Tubes are heat insulated 5 layer: Steel, Phenolic tube, Foil, Insulation, and another layer of foil. I no longer make these for the 370Z..Haven't had this car for a few years now..

Modshack you did a good job on the covers they look excellent. Good craftsmanship. These would be nice to add to the K&N sri's or replace the black covers on the Stillen G2’s.
