No CEL with the Berk HFC's here.

I have the ERZ HFC without the extended fouler and have throw 3 CELS in the past 6000 miles. First was at about 4000 miles, reset ecu. Then two days later another one 4050 miles, reset ecu by Disconnecting Battery. Then today I got another one at about 6000 miles.

I may have a loose 02 sensor or it maybe the lack of the extended fouler not sure, I still have not check the sensor yet. I just got my Cobb AP this Saturday and installed it on the car but no new map STOCK INSTALL. I got the last CEL light with the Cobb AP (Stock Installed). I get the AAM Competition map today and will install it tonight. If I keep having the CEL issue I may do the steel wool trick or just install the extended fouler.

Is the extended fouler the one that's about 1.5 inches and screws onto the HFC?

Yup, working great!

dj, I have the optional 90 degree angled extenders that are several inches long. They work like a charm. :)

djpathfinder 04-27-2010 10:08 AM

I see. I'm having my HFCs installed today with the straight extenders that came with them. Hopefully I won't get the CEL problems.

Steel wool...is that like the material used in scrub pads you use in the kitchen? Can I get steel wool at somewhere like Home Depot? How much do you need and how tight/loosely pack does it have to be?

Berk cats with stillen headers. No CEL's

Well, try first without it. Most likely, you will be ok.

Yeah that's the stuff... you can get it at the hardware store/grocery store etc.

From what I have read, you have to pack it pretty tight, but not so tight where no air can get through.

djpathfinder 04-27-2010 11:05 AM

Really? It's actually the scrub pads? I thought maybe it was sold in a large bundle, like cotton batting. OK, I'll try without first.

efuseakay 04-27-2010 11:31 AM

I'm sure you can find it in big bundles too. But either way should be fine. :)

well why not try with it just to be on the safe side? then you know you wont have to worry about issues down the road. Takes 30 seconds of your time. Pack in just enough so that it gives a slight and i mean SLIGHT resistance to your O2 sensor when you screw it in. Every since i've done it, my SES light hasnt come back on, 4 thousand miles later.

djpathfinder 04-27-2010 01:37 PM

Why not? Because it was installed this morning while I was at work.
