Who besides me kinda like the stock exhaust

I will be getting an aftermarket exhaust in the future I am sure. But I do still really love our stock exhaust. I think it sounds really good. I have had my car for a year and I still love windows down listening to it. Does anyone else out there besides me enjoy listening to our stock exhaust note

m4a1mustang 04-18-2010 08:51 PM

It sounds pretty good around 4k or so, but most all aftermarket CBEs really make our cars sound sweet. Obviously I think FI sounds the best, but I'll say that the AAM Competition exhaust is second best... its up there in the "amazing" category with FI.

Red370 04-18-2010 08:56 PM

the stock note is ok, but way, waaaay too refined for me, I like the sound of raw power, not luxury sport.

NewlyIMPORTed 04-18-2010 09:12 PM

the stock exhaust is fine.. until you hear an aftermarket in person

Stock is Nice but to Civil

Kastley85891 04-18-2010 09:47 PM

I am interested to see what diff my headers and Y will make with the HFC's, I was thinking of chopping up the stock muffler internally, re routing to a straight path and welding it back up, just for a Sunday project, I have a spare stock exhuast so if it does not work out no biggie, it does need to be more agressive, it sounded good with test pipes at WOT/redline and down shifting

jpit 04-18-2010 10:27 PM

I am currently running Berk HFCs and a Tanabe Y-Pipe and it is exactly the sound I was looking for. Don't like the sound of the catbacks but may try the Tanabe Medalion Touring when it becomes available.

I agree 100%.

BOLIO 671 04-19-2010 02:14 AM

IMO...the stock exhaust only sounds good at cold start....The aftermarket exhausts which are offered out there offer the type of sound that matches the looks of this car....Plus the extra HP/TQ gains are unbelievable and show you just how restrictive the stock exhaust is!!!

ArtVandaleigh 04-19-2010 10:33 AM

The OEM is WAY too quite for a sports car... sounds like your average Maxima to me.

I think that Im gonna do the same set up. Dont you get more HP gains from the HFCs and the Y pipe? I thought I read somewhere that get more of a HP gain from the HFC's then a cat back.

jpit 04-19-2010 11:16 AM

The most restrictive part of the exhaust is the catalytic converter and the Y-Pipe so you will get some nice gains. The output of the Berk HFCs is 2 1/2" (OD) which is the same as the intake portion of the Tanabe Y-Pipe so it is a nice match.

I took "jpit's" advice and went with HFCs and Tanabe y-pipe. I like the sound of the stock exhuast but wanted it to be a bit louder. Hopefully this setup will give me most of the power gains without being to loud or raspy.

Both the HFCs and Tanabe Y-pipe should be delivered any minute today by UPS. I'm going to do a couple baseline dyno runs before putting them on and will report the results.

In for the info - nice work UFreefer

Everyone loves the VQ tone but an aftermarket exhaust can make it sound deeper and better

semtex 04-20-2010 06:09 AM

The thing I've noticed about the stock exhaust is that it sounds nice enough from the outside, but you can't really hear it from the inside, at least not enough for my taste.

fullmonty 04-20-2010 07:28 AM

The stock tone is nice, but I wanted a little louder. ARK did the trick nicely

doesn't sound bad once you throw on some test pipes, I've received a few comments, I'm keeping the stock exhaust with F.I. LTH's until I can get my hands on the meisterschaft rear muffler, then we'll see what the LTH plus true dual piping to the Meister can sounds like....

Anyone have any sound clips of the Berk HFCs and Tanabe Y-pipe?

Did you ever go through with this plan?

NYBladeZ 10-13-2011 11:50 AM

Post was back in April, yeah I have your full catback with Fast Intentions LTH's and it is wicked.

eddieconfetti 10-13-2011 12:54 PM

the stock exhaust tone is great. but it still needs to be a little bit louda.

Methodical4u 10-13-2011 12:57 PM

I really heard nothing from the stock exhaust if I am to be totally honest. My Fiancee' said she could hear it a little bit when I would drive in.... I liked it a lot better with the ART pipes and then I REALLY liked it when I put my F.I. system on... subtle, but much more power gains and a very special sound right around 3-4 grand like that's a really sweet spot for it IMO. I also don't mind the 16 lbs I save from the combo :)

kenchan 10-13-2011 02:57 PM

yah the stock exhaust is waaaaay too quiet. especially when my stock G35C's exhaust is so musical i hated going to my 'weekend fun car' and hear no exhaust other than cold start... stock exhaust is too boring and must be replaced. :D

lol agreed! I have a single exhaust now on my g35. Now I can hear the car roar :happydance:

zenergy 10-15-2011 04:59 PM

I like the sound of the stock exhaust at around 4k rpm and above. It's refined but I am eventually going to replace it with berk hfc's and either stillen or fast intentions cbe. It's all a matter pf personal preference.

tranceformer 10-15-2011 06:32 PM

Stock exhaust isn't that bad, it's just too damn quiet. I went with just a set of berk hfc's and called it a day. Probably didn't add much power but now I can actually hear the exhaust when I hit the gas pedal. :icon17:
