Kinda makes you wonder why Nismo went with H instead of X like almost every aftermarket CBE vendor.
|
From the testing Stillen performed, they found that a Y pipe design yields the best gains on this car in both hp and torque. I personally think that choosing between an h pipe/y pipe/x pipe is splitting hairs on a performance based view point, but the sound they produce is different.

Not sure there any any real cheap solutions here guys. As someone mentioned at the point of changoing the downpipes and mid-pipes, you may as well go all out, and just get a full cat back that performs better than the Nismo LOL Plus you should through in some Berk HFC's  |
Just measured my stock Y pipe for you guys... My measurements for the inlet and outlet diameters of the stock Y pipe are as follows:
Cat to Y pipe: 1 3/4" for both inlets of the OEM y pipe Y pipe to axle-back: 2 1/2" |
Hi: lots of talk on the pro's and con's of "Y" "H" and "X" pipes. So what's the pro's and con's of running a true dual set up from the cats back.
Here in the UK, am limited on what manufactured after market systems are available without importing, systems that are readily available here are Nismo S tune, Invidia Q300 and systems made by Janspeed, Cobra and Scorpion. So was looking at going down the custom fit road but have not seen much info or remarks on true dual systems. Any help or comments on this type of set up would be a great help Thanks guys |

I believe the H functions similarly to a "true dual", but the cross link allows for some sound wave equilization which keeps the tone from getting overly loud. |
I think my stock y-pipe might be cracked. It was removed from previous owner. Not sure if that means it wouldn't be covered under warranty? Otherwise I might need to go aftermarket now.

Wow this thread was some time ago, anyways, check this,,, its a few down in this area...

I also use the search feature. I know some complain that others don't use it....other always complain when I wake the dead with my searches...lol. What do you think the likelihood of me having a cracked stock y-pipe actually is? It's been taking off before....previous owner had test pipes and full exhaust. I have had the car for a few months, and haven't heard any sounds until recently. Pretty sure it's the y-pipe. I warm up the car pretty good before drives....but would a WOT run with cold exhaust do anything to the flex joints....just brainstorming reasons why mine "could" be cracked. |
I thought most 350z and 370z ypipes are compatible. Tanabe's uses the same part # for 350z/370z/g35/g37
