Might as well just do the K&N drop ins, same gains and cheaper. Somone on here had actually lost power wit hthe short ram thiey installed and I think it was either the R2C or the JWs.

Was thinking about just going with k&n drop ins. What were your impressions?

better throttle response, free flowing and probably netted a few HP or TQ. Plus I can resuse them and not have to take my bumper off to clean them. And they need to be clean every few thousand miles. All filters need to be cleaned way before the 10,000 or 100,000 mile interval they say as once they start to get dirty you lose power. So the long tube intakes really need cleaning way before they say, meaning you will be taking the bumper off more often, and th emore something is removed and put back on the more it degrades and can get damaged. But if you have the $$$ and dont mind working on the car then the long tubes will net more power but I dont think any short rams do anything and any dyno can be tweek to show gains so I dont trust them till a member gets the stuff put on and I hear their review, and I wait for more than one to do it.

Good info...I'm going to go with those. I don't like the idea of taking my bumper off several times a year, especially since almost all of the gains are at 7K+rpm. As long as the k&n improves the throttle response a bit, then I'll be happy

this is the route I'm going. Lets not forget another forum member here dyno tested the k&n drop ins which netted him 4-5hp gain. Another suggestion would be the cobb intake tubes. I figure between the k&n drop ins and cobb intake tubes I get half the hp gains of a long tube for a fraction of the price. And as others have mentioned, the maintance is much easier too.

you wont have to take the bumper off several times a year, once a year maximum, depending on how many miles you go, filters dont need to be cleaned for at least 8-10k. And why is everyone so darn concerned with removing the bumper, its a 10 minute or less job!

I dont know Alex, after 8K miles the filters are probably pretty dirty causing them to not flow air in good and rob you of power, so if you wait till then you will have probaly lost most of the gains the long tubes offer. I clean my drop ins every oil change and alot of crap blows out of them then (especially here in TX where sh!t is flying around like crazy). No matter what intake you have the filters should be cleaned on a regular basis, like every oil change to keep them at maximum performance. The K&Ns say you can wait 100,00K miles or what ever they say, but I dont wait that long to atleast blow them out. Now to me the process of taking off the bumper, the price and all isnt worth it to me, and when something is on and off a few times things have a tendency to break, but I do know that some guys like working on their cars alot and wont mind taking the bumper off here and there. Im just getting lazy in my old age.

I just took the bumper off last week to have a peek at them, still somewhat clean looking, just about 4k on them so far, I assume with the filters sitting directly behind the bumper, they arent exposed to as much dirt/debris as something further back and more out in the open.

They flow good, with my Cobb AP I saw 240 G/S on a WOT pull when monitoring the MAF intake flow, Im not sure if that is 240 for both intakes or 240 for each intake. I would think for one only and I really had 480 G/S going into intake manifold. Not sure what the stocks did as I couldnt monitor anything until after I loaded the new tune. And they can probably allow more flow but that level was all the engine was capable of. Also the stock airbox was only reading 8-10 degress above ambient when driving. So the only thing missing with K&Ns and stock airbox is the larger MAF section which I beleive is where the aftermarket intakes get their gains.
