CBE worth the money if you already have HFC's?

I've been doing alot of reading and research and the consensus seems to be:

The first exhaust mod you do will result the most gains, and then thereafter the exhaust mods will only net a few more hp

If the first exhaust mod whether it be HFC's or CBE will result in the biggest gain, and assuming you don't care about asthetics, is it worth even installing the CBE on after the HFC's?

I know it's worth it to some, who have money burning in their pockets but if HFC's will give you 15-18hp for $330, is a $1500 CBE worth it for 5 more HP when the HFC's on a stock exhaust sounds pretty good and is quieter then HFC's with CBE?

I know there will be varying opinions but wanted to get people's thoughts.

Think about long run.
If you can't get it now, save up~! I mean, I know you can't wait to get upgrades now, but you can always save up and get'em when you can.

UFreefer 04-07-2010 10:37 PM

I can afford it now, I mean I just bought $35K car :icon17:, just not sure I can justify it for 5hp

nogoodname 04-07-2010 10:41 PM

It may just be 5 HP but the exhaust tone will be much better and it will outlast the OEM one too.

I think most of the HP gain from HFCs comes in the upper RPM range doesn't it?

B1nks 04-07-2010 10:51 PM

I'd say if you're not doing it for aesthetics then not right now I would probably put that 1k towards a different mod such as a better LSD, sways, coilovers, oil cooler for sure !

mpp9 04-07-2010 10:52 PM

He's talking about the performance of it all. The first exhaust mod you do is proven to show the vast majority of gain you're goin to have with hfcs probably giving you a bit more tq than just a catback but not quite the top end that a solid x pipe has shown especially with fast intentions. Obviously its going to sound more aggressive after switching out the catback also but if you're talking about performance which is what I'm looking for, hfcs and a tune is the best money/power ratio period. Hopefully aam will get back to me and several others about what's the deal with their cobb ap map deal. If you could get 30 whp with those mods I'm calling it a day.

Agreed, go for coilovers

Not necessarily if you get the right exhaust you should see nice gains. Fi hfc and fi exhaust should net you 25-30whp.

spearfish25 04-08-2010 07:00 AM

Is it worth some extra coin when you're getting a lap dance to get to touch the titties too? Absolutely.

Vegitto-kun 04-08-2010 07:21 AM

You would get a delicious sound.

I think its worth it

You've gotta have the sound, man. Don't you want to attract the chicks?

Seriously, the comment above says it all, it will outlast the OEM exhaust, in fact the stainless steel will outlast the rest of the vehicle.

25-30 sounds a bit optimistic.

IMO, buying an exhaust just for the power gains is silly, you buy it for the sexy exhaust note and the little push comes as a plus, even if it didn't yield any gains, I'd still keep my exhaust

Yeah I used to think that way when I had my Civic with a motor swap but don't feel that way anymore. That's why I sold that car and bought the Z. I'm used to paying big money for a few hp which was worth it for a car that only weighed 2000lbs and 200whp but not worth it for this one. If I could make the car completely silent I would, I don't need to be drawing that type of attention anymore. Don't get me wrong, I love the way these cars sound, a hell of alot better then my honda did, just don't need it to enjoy this car since I commute so far to work every day.

Thanks for everyone's thoughts....I just wanted to see the different opinions out there

True, but you can still rock a decent sounding exhaust with some (18" resonators maybe? :stirthepot: haha) and have her as your daily, not annoying what so ever.. a catback on it's own will only make the Z sound like it should've ;)

Again, just sharing my thoughts :)

corner3garage 04-09-2010 02:32 AM

CBE will make your car sound way better, if you end up turbocharging or pushing more power in the engine department you want better flow in the exhaust also.

he is correct sir, I've gained around 30-35 rwhp from just FI HFC and FI CBE.

yes it's worth the money....
