Fast Intentions street legal?
I've just ordered my 3010 370Z and will be replacing stock with Fast Intentions TDX cat back exhaust system which I believe is street legal in Pennyslyvania.
However, I want to add FI's high flow cats to replace the stock catalytic converters. Can anyone tell me if the car will be street legal in PA with this configuration? I will only do it if I'm street legal. Thanks |
Technically I believe in many states changing the exhaust or cats itself is considered "illegal" but that doesn't mean it's enforced.
As far as the HFC's go I am not formiliar with the laws in PA. Do they do a sniffer test for emissions or just a OBD reading? |
How the hell are they going to know? If you play it smart and dont attract unwanted attention you will never find yourself with a cop looking under your car...

Yea, I think I've read somewhere that all HFC's are illegal. Something to with with emissions..or some crap I forget. But just do like I will, get the hfc's and put the stock ones back on in 3 years when your due for inspection...OR leave them on and if they fail you..than put the stock on and switch back after you pass....

I mean, you can look at the back of my car and you just KNOW that I have aftermarket crap on there. |

If PA is anything like NJ, all you'd have to do is pass the inspection each year for emissions. And, if PA is anything like NJ, there are quite a few options to insure you pass each year. ;) |
I'm up in vermont and I used to have an Eclipse with Headers, HFC and an aftermarket catback exhaust and it passed inspection everytime... even a visual inspection. Definitely not legal.
As long as you don't have any check engine lights on and your not throwing any codes you will pass. I mean, it's a brand new car... some places will pass you just by taking a look at it. |
I don't know the db rating, but I am sure they are legal on there own. Once you put HFC's on, i think you are past the legal db rating. Most cops don't care unless you are driving stupid to just add on to the ticket.

Here in VA we have an annual State inspection where they check to make sure your car is road worthy... so everything important has to work... like wipers, lights, horn, turn signals, windows, brakes, tires, etc. They usually take a look under the car for a visual inspection of the exhaust system. I got burned once when the guy looked underneath my Mustang, saw my off-road X pipe, and said, "where are the cats?" :ughdance: I wonder how they would react to HFCs, because it's obvious that HFCs are not stock as there is no heat shield around the cats like on the OEM parts. You aren't supposed to alter a properly functioning emissions system so technically they could fail you... |
