ERZ HFC owners

Anyone out there that has bought the ERZ HFCs? Im wondering if you have had any cel light from it yet? And if you can tell if there are gains? And is there any rasp from it? I love their price, it seems that they are thinking that lower prices might mean higher sales. From what I can tell they are using metal cats and 304 steel so quality seems to be good. Thanks.

spearfish25 02-02-2010 02:53 PM

I bought them (think I was the first on this forum). Check out my other thread for a review and video.

Quality is excellent. T304 SS, 200 cell metallic core, and includes right angle anti-foulers. No CEL and I've had them for about 350 miles so far. They open up the sound of the Stillen CBE really nicely. There is a touch of rasp added only under WOT around the 4-5k RPM range. The VQ37 off-throttle hiss is also accentuated by these HFCs but I think this is a quality of any HFC on our cars. Overall, I'm very happy with the ERZ cats...I'd buy them again in a heartbeat.

could you feel any gains especially since you already had a CBE?

spearfish25 02-02-2010 03:48 PM

Hard to say with my winter tires still on the car. My inclination is 'yes'. With the winter tires, I'd get a VDC light on the highway if I dropped to 4th and floored the accelerator. With the HFCs installed, it happens in 5th now too. I'll have a better idea once I get the summer tires back on at the end of March.

I will be installing mine on Saturday. I will report back what my butt dyno says. I am also getting my car Dyno'ed the following Tuesday so I can see what I picked up from a CBE, Intake and the HFC's.

bluestyle55 02-02-2010 08:59 PM

ZSteve - ERZ is also offering a discount (PM the ERZ sponser) to those who post a video with there HFC installed.

SpearFish25 has the Stillin CBE convered, I will have the Invidia Gemini covered...I do believe there is no video's for FI CBE. There might be an opportunity there for you.

KEVTEX 02-02-2010 09:02 PM

No CEL's, no problems and they sound good with stock cat back exhaust.

For those who purchased the ERZ HFC did you recieve the angled Anti-Fouler (Show in the Picture Attached)? I did'nt recieve this extended Anti-Fouler but did not see it on the sponsered ERZ Sales Tread pic either (Link Below). Should it be included with the HFC Purchase?

Cool, I wonder if it matters which CBE you have as to weather you get rasp or not?

I called to ask about the anti-foulers when I received them (that's my picture). They said they just started including the right-angle anti-foulers. You can probably call them and see if they'll ship you a pair. Who knows if they really make a difference or not...I suppose time will tell.

Doubt it. The rasp I can hear really comes from the cats themselves. I'm interested in the resonated version on the horizon, but I'd hate to lose some of the volume the HFCs added to my exhaust. I'm not sure I'd pay the price premium and take the volume loss of resonated cats given how nicely the non-resonated HFCs have turned out.

So did you already have the CBE on and then get the HFCs? If so how much louder did it make it? Thanks.

Thanks for the update I guess I will give them a call.

Yep, CBE then added the HFCs. It's about 10dB louder in the car. I find that it's right where I want the loudness now and not too loud by any means.

Check out my other thread. I reviewed all this stuff at length.

TBSS2008 02-04-2010 08:48 AM

Well I called ERZ and spoke with one of their sales reps. He told me that you can buy the angle anti-fouler separately at ERZ $34.99 a piece or $69.98 for the pair (Link Below) but said it was not part of the 370z HFC purchase. I also purchased my HFC after reading your review spearfish25, so maybe you got lucky it was included or maybe I just got unlucky it wasn’t.

Either way I am going to have it installed tomorrow with out the angle fouler extension and see what happens. If I throw a CEL light then hopefully ERZ will send me the anti-fouler extension. I just don’t want to pay for something I may not need.

spearfish25 02-04-2010 09:09 AM

Yeah, I actually called them when I received the HFCs to inquire about the anti-foulers. They made it sound like they would be included with all the sales, but perhaps they just threw them in with my order.

I'd just give it a try without them and see what happens. At least you have a manufacturer produced option if you do have a CEL. They are just two more things that can loosen up with time, so avoiding them might be worthwhile if you don't throw CELs.

TBSS2008 02-04-2010 09:26 AM

Yeah I'm just going to have the HFC installed tomorrow without the anti-fouler extensions and see what happens. I am really looking forward to the extra power and sound these things are going to produce!

ERZperformance 02-10-2010 04:41 AM

our resonated test pipe is coming , the 02 sensor is more extended because of Cel issue.

Zsteve 02-10-2010 07:23 PM

well ERZ HFCs are on the way. I will do a sound clip/vid of them with my FI CBE. Should sound pretty good and hopfully Ill gain some HP/TQ to make up for the loss of going from 93 to 91 oct and going up in elevation.

Don't know about any dynos of the ERZs specifically, but all HFCs will have similar gains, give or take, but the differences between them all are insignificant IMO.

The ERZs are great though. I have them on my G37 sedan. :D

My ERZ hfc's finally gave a cel of P0420 after about 3000 miles. I cleared it and it hasn't come back yet. I might need the right angle o2 extenders.

None for me yet but I probably only have about 2k on them so far. And I didnt use the extender at all just some steel wool.

My CEL (SES) light is coming on more and more frequently now. First time it came on in 1 year, then after 600 miles it came back on. I might have to get the extended bungs.

What I would like to know is why did it take 1 year for it to come on, and why now it's coming on so quickly?

If the catalytic material is braking down and not doing it's job then it will happen this way. It's not properly scrubbing the exhaust.
