How often and how to clean Z1 long air intake?

or do you need to?

If I were to worry about such things, I'd clean them every time I cleaned the MAFs or TBs. YMMV

I clean my long tube cai filters once a year in the winter when I park it.

Drove the car 3k miles this past year including 2 long distance group meets. Filters have been on the car for 2 or 3 years now. I just took off the pipes to be powdercoated a month ago and the filters look brand new still. So I wouldn't worry much.

Z1 Motorsports recommends cleaning your air filters once each year on their CAI kit. I always use the K&N air filter recharge cleaning kit to clean and oil my air filters every year before putting my Z in storage for the winter. Replace your air filters if they are damaged, worn out/too old , too dirty etc.

MAF = Mass AirFlow Sensor
TB = Throttle Bodies
YMMV = Your Mileage May Vary, i.e., your results may be different.

Under normal use, K&N recommends that you clean and oil the filters every 50K miles.

I prefer dry filters. No oiling kit to buy and no risk of over-oiling them; doing it once a year is just begging for over oiling if you ask me. Just blow out the filter from the inside with an air compressor every so often. Some people do this every oil change. Others will do it every 10-20K miles since you have to take off the bumper for these intakes. For a deep clean you just have to soak the filter in some water with a little bit of Simple Green and let it dry completely :tup:

hmmmm. Was the question about intake tubes or air filters?

This is what I use. You just have to be careful when oiling. You don't need a lot of oil. Too much oil will end up on the MAF sensors and throttle bodies.

Cleaning it once a year is good enough. That's what I do.
