Exactly how loud is Tomei CBE Exhaust?

Hey guys,

This is my first post inquiring about anything here. So I daily drive a 370z, currently I ride with everything pretty much stock. Only mod I did was that I removed the muffler and added an AAM non-resonated short tails. The car itself is fairly loud, however the "growl" comes in pretty late (around 4-5k rpm). Anything before or after that zone leaves a lot to be desired.

I have been doing some research on the Tomei 370z CBE and its Y-pipe. I am super interested. Exactly how much louder is it compared to the AAM short-tails? Cold starts with my AAM short-tails are bare-able, anyone know how loud are cold starts will be on the full Tomei CBE and its y-pipe? Will it be MUCH louder? Or about the same?

I live in Canada, and we have muffler laws. I've been dailying my Z with those short-tails, no troubles with the police yet. I currently live in an apartment that is right outside of the housing unit of special constable (peace officers). So, that is why I am inquiring!

Thanks!

There are so many videos out there of Zs with dat Tomei dah(!). You already have one of the louder options with non-res short tails.

More free flow will increase the volume.

Yeah, I've been listening to a lot of Tomei clips. To me they sound about the same, but they hit that "growl" a lot earlier. Maybe 3k rpm? As long as I behave myself I should be a-okay. Early shifting etc etc...

Excuse me for my lack of knowledge, but what exactly does it mean to have more volume? Does that mean more air will be pushed out?

The Tomei will be louder. I rarely see Tomeis installed without test pipes, but with test pipes it is ear-deafening. I personally don’t think the Tomei makes a good sound... trumpet-like and raspy. To each his own.

I guess I can just keep dreaming to "daily a tomei" :ugh2:. Any
recommendations for a single can? I really prefer the look of the single cans. How does the AAM Single exhaust hold up? Or even the Isr single exit exhaust?
I am a new Z owner, looking for some recommendations!

Let’s put it this way: All single exits are loud as hell. The Tomei is titanium and even louder.

Like someone said above, add a y-pipe and some test pipes and it doesn’t matter what single exit you throw on the car. They will all be loud as hell.

There are several people out there that have added additional resonators to their single exits to adjust the sound, so maybe that is what you would want to do to keep the visual aesthetics.

It sounds like a trumpet being gang-raped by four, maybe five tubas.

Greddy makes a single exit, which I'd strongly recommend over any other listings.

The Tomei is titanium(obviously), which is why it sounds so different. There is also thinner gauge metal used, which is a factor as to why it's so loud. Several people have also had theirs crack. Tomei is good stuff, but thin metal being heat cycled(and scraping underneath a low slung car) is bound to give at some point.

I think I may have settled on the Tomei, I found a used posting for cheap. Including the tomei y-pipe. I think I should be okay as long as I behave myself on the pedal :rofl2:

Neighbors might kill him on first cold startup :icon17:

ZontheRocks 05-05-2020 07:53 AM

“Staying out of it” will not keep a single exit exhaust quiet. Lol

Agree with Madwi, first cold start is going to be a legit wake up call for anyone with their eyes closed!

I’ve got a Shockwave with ART pipes and that thing shakes half the house when I start her up in the garage.

Start that up in a parking lot and you'll set off car alarms in a 100 foot radius. Sleeping babies will wake up shrieking. Zoom meetings will drop. RCAF will scramble fighters thinking the Russians are coming.

Are singles really that much louder? Because I'm in full agreement, these FI res TPs and Greddy EVO catback vibrate my whole frikkin house. Hard to imagine this thing has any more volume in it:icon14:

Watch one of Danny Z's exhaust videos on youtube. He has a Tomei. No way in hell I could daily drive that.

LMAO, probably going to wake up with a keyed up Z e:driving:

scroupious 07-09-2020 01:58 PM

When I purchased my Z it already had a Full Tomei exhaust attached to test pipes and factor exhaust manifolds.
I installed FI long tube headers to the tomei system and so far this summer the neighbors have reported me to the police twice...hahah. My baffle finally showed up and that took stopped the cops from stopping. By the cops loved the car. hahah
