So from reading this and a couple of other threads, this looks like a fairly straightforward DIY...would you guys concur? Did you guys just put the car on jackstands and just crept around during the install? I'm considering getting a HFC along with a Invidia Gemini exhaust. Trying to determine if installing a HFC and CBE is something I can do with just jackstands. Car is 3 weeks old, so the bolts should come off easily, just not sure if there's enough room to maneuver all the piping while taking down the stock and installing the new with only about 12-16" of ground clearance to work with.

There are one bolt on each side of cat that are EXTREMELY difficult to remove. Due the the accessibility and how Nissan decided to torture 370z owners who wish to pollute the environment a bit more than it is necessary.

(I haven't done my install yet but that's the info i got from reading HFC DIY)

Seems like hit or miss with the top bolts on each side. I've done 2 HFC installs so far. Each time the bolts did break loose with considerable force. I recommend a breaker bar with a pipe/jack handle slid over it. On the second install, the bolt broke loose but as we tried to back it out the head snapped off. This isn't an issue though since the stock cat will come right off at that point.

Some guys aren't so lucky though and have to torch/cut the bolts off. Just soak those puppies in PB Blaster the night before and hope for the best.

You'll have plenty of room with jack stands. We actually did the second install with just the front on ramps.

Do you think it'll be hard to break the top bolt loose even on a brand new vehicle? Thanks for the advise. I was more worried about having enough room to maneuver pieces of a CBE because they are longer. OK, I may have to go buy some tools...cool!

Both cars were low mileage and it still took some serious torque to break them loose. Mine had around 1500 miles on it. With the proper tools it's not hard though.

Yes... as my guy says, "They come pre-stripped from the factory!"... lol Even on my 2010 G37xS sedan that I picked up 2 weeks ago. heh

They had to use the torch on my driver's side bolt.

Other than that, install went fine. Took more than an hour though because of that one damn bolt.

I did get an SES light today though (had them installed yesterday)... P2A03... I cleared it with my OBDII scanner, and I'll see if it pops up again. Hopefully it was just a fluke, but we will see.

I guess that code has to do with one of the primary a/f sensors. AFAIK, the battery was never disconnected. If it pops up again, I'll try that.

I think, and FIs thread shows i too, that even though the HFCs should get you 15 and the CBE should get you 15 and the G3 should get you 15, that the first mod wether its the CAI, HFC, or CBE will get you that gain, but I think all the mods after that only net a few each. Fi showed that when they dynod their HFC with a CBE on already and only got about 3 hp. So I think the first mod opens things up good and the following mods only net a few. Id love to see a dyno of all three without any other mods to see what they do and then add a mod, dyno again until you have all three on and see what the final results would be.

This. I'm wondering if putting HFC's on my Nismo will even be worth it. It is a lot less expensive and intrusive than intakes or replacing the full exhaust though.

You already have an upgraded Nismo exhaust and a tuned ECU. You could do an intake, headers and/or HFC, but if you follow the theory that the first intake/exhaust mod you do will net the most results, then successive ones by small increments only...not sure how much you would gain +/- re-tuning your ECU. It will improve the breathing and clear up your exhaust path though. Interested to be the first to try it out on a Nismo Z?

First G37 installed so far let your buddies at myg37.com know about this .

Yup they know! I did have a P2A03 code pop up today. I did clear it so we will see if it comes back. If it does there may be a leak at one of the header flanges from the install. I'll update after I put some more miles on the car and break them in so the rasp quiets down a bit.

Other than the code, so far so good!

First to try HFC's on a Nismo, or the ERZ HFC's specifically? Someone else with a Nismo has got to have HFC's already... I'm tempted to buy HFC's just for the sound, but I'm waiting on my coilovers and don't want to have too many mods in progress at the same time. Also, I couldn't really do a good dyno comparison since my car isn't past the engine break-in period.
