Nismo stock mid pipes vs aftermarket

Got another question for all you people that are much smarter than I am. I have the '16 nismo and this obviously comes with it's True Dual exhaust setup. My question is, do you think it is better to leave the mid pipes as is and only change cats/muffler? Or so you think changing the mid pipe, whether it be to an aftermarket H or X pipe is better? This is for both sound and power gains

the cats are the biggest power restrictor that can be addressed with bolt ons

this really isn't new ground

if emissions are not a factor, a full long tube header that eliminates the cat + exhaust + long tube intakes are the best you can do

a less invasive alternatives is stock header but test pipes (plenty of choices) and exhaust

and an even less aggressive option is a resonated High flow cat like Fast Intentions + exhaust

the exhaust is primarily for sound

how you deal with the cat affects power more

and then there's a variety of cold air intake choices

there's nothing stock, nismo or not, that you're going to be keeping, the bolt on level replaces all that crap

read the threads about these topics, there are many

EDIT:
is turbo is in your future, don't waste money on headers that will be replaced anyways with a turbo manifold

The stock Nismo exhaust has a stock H pipe in the mid pipe from what I remember. You could replace just the mufflers if you wanted too. There were some bolt up ones, can't remember their name, that sounded good. The only other options I would consider would be a Fast Intentions cat back exhaust.

What Spooler said-he might mean the AAM competition

Yep AAM and TopSpeed that I recall.

Good info here Nissan actually did a excellent job with their H pipe design and exhaust/muffler as far as design and being a “true” dual exhaust that flows well. The Nismo H pipe is manufactured by HKS and I would consider keeping it. The exhaust/muffler is more for sound really there is not a lot to gain there. The biggest restriction is the stock Nissan OEM catalytic converters and there is something to gain by switching in terms of power. The Nissan OEM headers are not a huge restriction in the exhaust system but, quite a bit can be gained by installing longtube headers if you have no emissions testing and have the extra coin to install them. Also a great way to remove restriction and be cost effective would be to install high flow catalytic converters or test pipes. Before purchasing exhaust you should listen to other people’s exhaust set ups in person on their Z or listen to exhaust clips on places like YouTube etc. I have had the AAM Competition HFC’s and test pipes installed they were a great bang for the buck.

TopSpeed is what I was thinking of. I don't buy AAM anything.

So I've been doing some reading and I've seen that the z1 shorty headers can provide the same power as just about all the brand LTH. I've read that the biggest difference comes down to high end vs low end HP/Torque when you have a turbo/SC installed. I'm guessing at this point, it's really down to where I want that power, and then choosing the configuration from there

It depends on where you would like to make the power in the power band and what brand manufacturer you want to give your business to? The Z1 shorty headers have been proven to make power over the stock OEM Nissan headers. Having seen other people’s dyno results I seen they make gains lower in the power band comparing to the longtube headers and have better ground clearance. Stillen use to make headers for our cars. If you decide on the Z1 headers I recommend not using their exhaust gaskets because they are prone to leaking. Use FI,AAM,Berk etc exhaust gaskets instead. I had to take my exhaust apart before due the Z1 exhaust gaskets leaking to replace my exhaust exhausts customers beware.

I am looking at getting the Nismo R-Tune cat-back exhaust kit to replace the stock pipes. Is that what you mentioned in the above post?
