Going From Dual to Single Exit
 

I’m currently running AAM non-res test pipes and an Invidia Gemini catback and while I love the sound and appearance I can’t kick the notion of unlocking more power and saving weight with a single exit. Specifically eyeing an ISR Y-back paired with an HBP Exhaust resonated Y-pipe.

Can anyone comment on going from a dual to single set up? Interested to know if power increase was actually felt or if it’s really only for dyno queens and hardcore track rats. Current noise level is about as loud as I’d go as well.

I’ve been flip-flopping on this for months now so any insight is appreciated.

Dual exhaust makes more (not much more) power on our cars. The only reason to go single is if you like the sound, look, or you need to save weight.

the ideal exhaust will expand as it goes towards the back of the car, meaning when the gas cools and moves slower, there's more room to get rid of it.

I dont comment nor participate as much as I'd like to on this forum, but when I say the choice between single and dual is completely a personal choice, it is. Almost all power differences between dual and single are negligible and it's always argued over. The Z community where I live constantly bickers over it and it's just ridiculous. Up until the HR 350's I believe, the stock exhausts were single into a dual exit muffler anyways. I personally run a single exit Tomei but my girlfriend has a Motordyne and it sounds beautiful, better than my car, but I'd still take the single because it's preference. By the way that ISR is gonna be louder than what you have for sure.

You're wasting you're money if you're searching for power. Like what was already said. N/A, you're not going to see a diff.

At the end of the day the dual exhaust set up will make more power slightly than the single exhaust set up. If you are looking to make more power N/A it is honestly not worth it. If you already have the AAM Competition non resonated test pipes and are considering swapping out your Invidia Gemini catback I would consider the AAM Competition non resonated s line short tail exhaust or the AAM Competition r line 3” true dual exhaust would be best matched as far as fitment go’s and sound the best in my opinion. Depends on what exhaust you like the sound of best? Exhaust is very subjective on this forum and it all depends on what you like?

Ehhhhhhh for a v type engine you need Venturi pipes to accelerate your exhaust flow

Thank you everyone for your input. The rational side of me understands power difference would never be actually felt and vary between dyno's, so I'll chock this up to too much YouTube and time passed since last modifying the car.

The only person I know personally who has made the switch from dual to single is Matt (mattlorentzoe) on his G37x. He had a FI exhaust and switched to a SOHO single and picked up 5whp/7wtq. It isn't much, and could be dyno variances, but before and after we done same day I believe.

Moncel and Jon have mentioned in various FB posts that they have seen singles make slightly more power also.

In the end, it is overall a style and sound preference.
