Potentially buying a used FI CBE

Is there any give aways that the exhaust is truly FI? Any branding? The pics on FI site look primarily just like pipes. The owner is suppose to send me pics later, will post them up here.

The exhaust tips should have their logo etched into them on the top side. Earlier variations had Fast Intentions etched into them. Not sure exactly when they switched the etch but either should make you feel comfortable about it being an FI exhaust

That's the new style.

I posted pictures of my "old style" when I received it just last year, so its not that old of a system.

You will be able to immediately tell once you see the quality of the workmanship. Of course the logo/brand etching is also a dead giveaway.

Thank you all for the help. I'm excited to install and hear it on my car. I like my current exhaust but going the cheap route left me wanting more like others said.

I've heard nothing but good things about FI. Worst comes to worse I can resell and get most if not all my money back and slap my old exhaust on.

Does FI actually pop and what not with stock cats like it does on some videos?

My FI, non resonated exhaust, with Berk HFCs has never popped. Heck my Mustangs droned, my 370Z doesn't even drone.

I posted some videos here.

Fit of every piece was perfect. Even the packing was excellent when I received my FI exhaust. I have nothing but good things to say about. I drive mine daily, through the snow and salt and everything, and it still looks great.

Highly suggest getting HCF's to get the most out of the exhaust to truly experience what most owners like about it.

If your going to run it with oem cats you're going to be running around with the exhaust muzzled.

The pops and stuff on deceleration will be quieter IF kept on oem cats, But your defeating the whole purpose of the FI exhaust.

I tried changing the cats to test pipes once once, lets say that the bolts won and I buttoned her back up. It's not something I'm opposed too, just would have someone do it for me. Would I have to go with the FI HFC or really any? Lastly, how bad is the smell when the cats are not stock?

The stock Nissan catalytic converters are a bottle neck in the exhaust system and not going catless or installing high flow catalytic converters as our friend Trips stated you will be leaving whp/wtq on the table and restricting your exhaust flow and defeating the purpose of upgrading your exhaust system on your Z. The unburnt fuel smell/odor will be more noticeable going catless. After you install high flow catalytic converters you will notice only very slightly more at start up and driving your exhaust smell may seem a bit richer smelling. The Fast Intentions exhaust is definitely worth it if it is feasible for you to afford. There exhaust makes whp/wtq and they make excellent quality exhaust products and have great fitment also. The sound factor is really nice if you like the sound of their exhaust on your Z?

There's a few of us in the Tampa Bay Area that can help you win that battle!

My FI CBE popped and crackled until I installed the Z1 long tube CAI. Now the popping seems to have subsided. Strange.

You may have to just settle for getting help and the right tools IF you want them installed.

From what I know a reputable shop may not want to legally touch them :shakes head:

As to the brand? FI and Berks are pretty much the most common and there's not a difference between the two.

The exhaust smell will not be noticeable on HFC's thats only an issue when running none resonated test pipes.

You'll notice a heck of a difference from oem cat's to HFC's :driving:

This is what I ran into. From what I was told they can get fines around $25K per instance. I had to end up installing them myself.

This exhaust has lived up to its hype thats for sure. Not sure if it's a placebo effect (since its new to me) or there is a noticeable difference in acceleration (that I can feel). Still contemplating test pipes, how is the drone and in cabin noise with this combo? I found low rpms and gears pretty loud with stock cats and the FI catback.
