Z1 High Flow Cats Review/Complaint

Since I didn't find any reviews other than the 2 perfect ones on their site, and my review probably won't be posted on their site, I decided to put in my opinion of these here.

So a week after installing these I get a SES light... I ran test pipes for a year, so not sure whats going on there.

Also the support bracket does not bolt up to these.

I'm not very impressed with these and I feel like I've wasted $400 just to avoid my car smelling.

Heard great things about Fast Intentions HFCs.

That might have been the better option... or just dealing with the raw smell of exhaust

There's always a rare case scenario where you do get a CEL, even with Fast Intentions. They do say, however, that a tune should fix it.

Got the code ran. Came back with p0158, but I can’t find any way to narrow it down. What codes do people usually throw with high flow cats?

Beachbum718 03-17-2018 11:28 PM

had mine on for a year, no codes what so ever

Yea not sure what to say there. It’s just stupid I run test pipes for a year with no issues, then throw these on and get a code almost immediately. Probably some quality control issue. Most likely won’t use their products anymore

VQStryker 03-18-2018 12:05 AM

Z1 is a very reputable company, not too sure why but probably some quality control issue like you said. Did you check the O2 sensor to see if it needs replaced? If it doesn’t need replaced then a tune will fix the issue. Hope you figure it out.

1 Attachment(s)
Maybe try the electrical connector. I hope this attachment helps

Fhjkalfhu 03-18-2018 01:15 AM

I haven’t checked the sensors but might. I figured it would be pointless because doesn’t a tune just basically tell the ecu to disregard those sensors? I appreciate your input tho

HapaZ 03-18-2018 03:10 AM

I had a SES light issue after install and it ended up being an exhaust leak unrelated to the parts. It was an install issue. Might want to hook up and ECU reader to see if that's the issue.

Fhjkalfhu 03-18-2018 08:46 AM

That’s the only code I got. I don’t think that’s the one for a leak

SS_Firehawk 03-18-2018 09:57 PM

Do you have a pic of the bracket not matching up? Could be that you needed to keep the bolts loose until everything lined up then tightened it down. It could also explain your code. Just some suggestions.

Fhjkalfhu 03-18-2018 10:05 PM

No I don’t. I tried that while I was installing it but didn’t care since it’s just a support bracket and nothing else. I’m 99% sure that has anything to do with a code for Oxygen Sensor Circuit high Voltage (Bank 2 Sensor 2).

jchammond 03-18-2018 10:06 PM

One more thing to add when working in that area...”No Impact Wrenches”
Shock/vibrations can damage AFR/O2’s.

You are not the first person I heard that their Z1 Motorsports high flow catalytic converters failed. I wonder what company is making their high flow catalytic converters for them now?? You should that done some more searching before you made your purchase. I would have not given Z1 Motorsports my business. If you are not going to run catless test pipes than I do know that AAM Competition and Fast Intentions have a excellent track record with the quality of their catalytic converters.

Update if anyone is considering purchasing these. Decided before tuning to see if o2 sensors needed to be replaced, and they did.

I did notice that when I was taking the sensors out, one of them lost the steel wool I used for the cheap method

The z1 gaskets are junk and leak, which I found out after installing, so after I install the fast intentions gaskets I’ll give the mounting brackets another go and update on those as well.

Since it’s warming outside now, I have been able to get more of a feel on the sound from these. I do feel like I lost power when compared to test pipes, and it doesn’t have that loud, raw sound anymore.

Your cats failed or the gaskets?

They should be under warranty, shouldn’t they?

I was considering gutting mine if that happened and using them as resonated test pipes.

Fhjkalfhu 04-12-2018 01:10 PM

Tried to browse for any warranty information on their site and couldn’t find any... still waiting for a response from them on the quality of the gaskets, but I’m assuming since I left a review of their product that was less than 5 stars I’ll get ignored by them.
