Another Exhaust Thread
Ladies (because we've seen your posts) and Gentlemen,
I want to wake up the exhaust to be more aggressive through the gears but not be obnoxious when I get into the accelerator a bit, and .... I don't want ANY drone at highway speeds 50 to 60 mph. Note: this is a Roadster and is exclusively driven with the top down. Can I do this with a muffler delete, or is there a short tail setup that gives me this result without breaking the bank? I want a bolt on, not a cut and fabricate. In my area there are a number of factory mufflers for sale for under $200 on Kijiji. Has anyone bought a used one, gutted it from the top, and just welded the can closed again? What results did you get? Looking for options that will give me what I want , but still maintain my happy Bride. Many thanks! Gene |
Simple. Fast intentions with 18 inch resonators

Shorttails are never a permanent solution

You do FI 18"res TDX & your Bride will take your ~Z~ from you!
I have the res TP's as well & wouldn't change a thing. |

go with the stock Nismo exhaust, love mine..
bought FI with 18" resonators, at highway speeds1800-2800rpm there was so much drone that i could not converse with the passenger, very annoying sound, sold it 3 weeks later.. |

You will not regret the original Nismo catback.
Here is the look from the rear |
The bonus with FI is extra ~20HP.

i found my Nismo exhaust on craigslist $350, might takee some searching in outlying areas,,,

I've had both the Invidia Gemini (current) and CNT Racing catbacks and I think they would fit what you are looking for. Both are affordable options... I actually preferred the CNT Racing pipes, even though most would consider them in the "cheap ebay exhaust" category.

Gemini + non res HFC is enough aggressive while accelerate but quiet asf while cruising
|
Stay away from muffler delete setups such as short tails. The drone and resonance will make your ears bleed. I tried Belugas and they were extremely loud. Stayed on my car a day before removing them. Short tails are worse. I decided to go back with my stock Nismo setup, for now.

Does it fit perfectly to the stock midpipe? Any pics, soundclips? How long did it take for you to get it and did you order it directly from AAM? |

I replied there a while back. |

I can say I have no regrets at all,it took around 2 weeks to get it,as they had to make it before shipping, took an hour to install taking my time.If I had to put a number on it I would say its 25% louder than the stock muffler, nothing too radical at all.

The only thing that I can't decide on is what type of exhaust tips I go with. Since I have a Nismo, I will probably go with the 5" tips but I really like the burnt titanium ones.
What do you guys think? Too much for a Nismo? Just can't find a picture of a '15+ Nismo with 5" burnt titanium exhaust tips. Attachment 125734 |
Update: Gave Luis at AAM a call and was told that the 5” Titanium tips are on back order so I finally went with the polished tips. I think they’ll probably look better anyway on a black Nismo. I’ll let you guys know what I think once I get everything.
Now all I gotta wait for is spring.....hehe Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I received my AAM S-line axleback on Tuesday. So far so good. It was surprisingly quick shipping and everything was well packaged. Here are a few pics of the exhaust and the 5 inch polished tips. Nice welds on the tips. Very nice muffler canisters. I notice that they've changed the way they weld the two canisters together. They used to weld in small metal rods to hold the canisters together. Now they just place a weld on the canister edges. Hopefully this is a more reliable way of doing it. I did take a look inside the canisters using a flexible borescope camera and I was happy to see that these are straight flow mufflers. That's a good sign.
Attachment 125893 Attachment 125894 Attachment 125895 I will be installing it this weekend. I won't be able to drive my car until spring but I'll at least start it up to hear what it sounds like. I'll try to make a vid. Now, all that remains to be seen is the fit with my Nismo bumper. I'll post pics once everything is installed. |

I installed the axle back on Saturday and couldn't be happier. The install was extremely simple because everything fit perfectly. The fit and finish is spot on and it did not require any adjusting or shims. The exhaust tips went on without issue except the band clamps required extreme tightening for the tips to stay in place. The band clamps could've been a better quality. I will probably replace them with better quality clamps next spring.
Since it was relatively nice last Saturday, I took my car out of storage and went for a quick drive. I was pleasantly surprised as soon as I started it up. I was greeted with a deeper growl and I could now actually hear the exhaust with the windows down unlike the previous Nismo muffler which was the quietest muffler I've ever had on any car. Even my '17 Maxima has a louder OEM exhaust. I don't know what Nissan were thinking. Anyways, it really comes alive at WOT. It's just loud enough for my tastes. There is 0 drone and is very quiet at idle. As someone else stated, I would agree that it's about 25% louder than stock. Here are some pics. I did not get a chance to make a video, unfortunately. I'll probably do that next spring since it is now back in storage and we are being hit with a major snow storm. Attachment 125973 Attachment 125974 |
