Cost to install FI Test Pipes and Cat Back Exhaust

I just got quotes from several shops and they are all over priced, right?

From one shop: "We normally charge $275 for test pipes / high flow cats and $150 for cat back exhaust installs. However, since you are doing both at the same time, its $375."

Another was saying $225 for just the exhaust and they wont do test pipes.

Cheapest one i found was $150-200 and again would only do the exhaust not test pipes.

Why do test pipes cost more? I guess because they are illegal

Quotes are from shops in Dallas Texas.

Thoughts.

Test pipes can be a real bitch to install if those bolts have frozen up. Cat back is a 30 minute job if you have a lift. They're both reasonable diy jobs if you've got a place to do it. The tools you'll need cost a hell of a lot less than $375.

It's not that bad of a price. It could easily take them 2-3 hours or more if the test pipes don't want to cooperate.

If you were local, I'd do it for $200, a large pizza and a good bottle of whisky. There's got to be someone in Dallas that can help you out. Repost this the the Texas subforum and see if anyone needs some beer money.

Alright thanks for you input. I will try to post it in the sub-forum.

I had CBE installed for like $100. Then when I got HFC, I got that installed for about $140 at my local mechanic and I needed gaskets. This is in SoCal. For some reason I'd expect it to be cheaper in TX.

Driving a 16',,,your's shouldn't be bad.
I guess they're trying to CYA-in the event they break some bolt's/knuckles.
The exhaust is very straight forward & simple to install...try bumping the thread a few day's & you will get a better deal.
Just be sure they perform quality work.

Also remember; No impact wrenches on exhaust bolt's while AFR (O2) sensor's are in place,,,the vibration will damage them.
