Minionz Header Build

Figured I'd finally share my header build. I started with some ebay OBX headers that the primaries were way too big on but began to wonder if they were leaking after countless ghost sounds coming from the exhaust system. I had the time and wanted to try it so figured why not!

The first thing i did was weld some small tubes to the oem header flanges that i recycled. From there I began to build my runners one at a time using the ICENGINEWORKS modelling kit. Unfortunately the base kit did not have enough blocks to build all three runners at the same time using the 3" CLR blocks so I could only build 2 runners at a time. All of the runners are within .5" of eachother so I'd say for my first set I did okay.

Next step was to start cutting up metal for the project. I purchased multiple U bends in the appropriate sizes in mild steel first since i knew i wanted to possibly build jigs for them. It is also cheaper to scrap mild steel versus stainless steel for this phase of the project.

Next I built jigs for them and made a heat sink for the header flange to bolt to.

Finally i tested the first set in the car to verify fitment.

Now it was time for the final product! I used mild steel flanges that I had cut from hot rolled sheet then pickled the flanges to get rid of the mill scale on them. the final set has 1 5/8 primaries stepped to 1 3/4 with a 2.5 collector exit.

After that I built the Y pipe and single exit exhaust for my nismo bumper.

I've thought about building a few sets actually but dunno what the demand would be.

Very nice Mate, a lot of people attempt this sort of thing & make a dogs breakfast out of it.
Very few have the skills & patience to turn out a really professional looking & well fitting product like you have done. I commend you, well done.

:iagree: If you want to try something a little different, with a different sound. Make a set of 180 deg headers.
