Not sure if the Nismo uses the same OEM air filters. The OEM ones for the regular Z/G37 I got are paper but it is slightly oiled.

After seeing what using an oiled K&N filter did to the throttle body and air box of my motorcycle, I will only use dry filters on my Z. It will gunk up your throttle body with oil over time and you will have to clean it.

That's only if the filter is over-oiled. With the proper amount of oil, I've never seen any gunk on any of the cars I've used a K&N filter. Unfortunately, they all come out of the box with way, way too much oil. I always let it sit out on some paper towels for a day or two to soak up the excess, and I've never had any issues.

Too much oil can interfere with the Mass Air Flow sensors.

I am a Harley mechanic and have only see this once in over my 10yrs and was caused by the owner OVER OILING the filter. Just a little spray of oil on the incoming side of the filter, never any oil on the TB side is all you need. K&N filters comes on brand new CVO models from the factory. If they caused problems the factory would never use them.

Pink not red. A light spray and wait 5-10 minutes and you will see the oil spread out to cover the whole filter.

The ones I just recived in the mail from Nissan are definitely lightly oiled,maybe just for the nismo, IDK. see the pics im posting here. I am sure the ones I took out are original ,I am surprised the dealership never offered me new one when I did the fuel system cleaning with them back in May of this year.They are from 2010 ,they were intact until i pressed lightly with my fingers and they just disintegrated! They only cost me $50. for the pair shipping included. I bet the at the service dept they are double the price easily! I cant wait to drive to work tonight and feel the difference,I am sure I will notice something. :)

Imagine if that disintegrated into your engine on a WOT pull... good thing you just replaced it.

So I'm guessing no one that has posted here has ever changed out an oem air filter? Just so everyone knows, the replacements you buy from the dealer come lightly oiled in a sealed plastic bag, doesn't matter if it's nismo or not. Have changed out my air filters multiple times and the new ones always come with a light coat of oil on them.

I installed som R2C filters, quite happy with them as I dont want oiled filters and stock filters are...well, stock.

WOW, so you have never changed them in 7 years? No wonder they fell apart.

I have used so many it is not even funny. I would not classify them as lightly oiled. Whatever, it doesn't matter, they are still factory Nissan filters.

I only have the car since Febuary 2016, and relied on the service dept to advise me. I thought to check them myself. 54,300 miles on it.
