Intake Manifold

It looks like the aftermarket intake manifolds don't really do much, is it better to just port your intake manifold?

Elmo370z 07-28-2017 06:57 PM

Guess making 1000whp on a after market intake manifold doesn't do much either.

My take on it. If your N/A. Port and polish. FI with big boost. Aftermarket.

What size would you get the lower and upper ported too, how does it compare to aftermarket

It was just stated above you. Aftermarket manifolds are not worth the money if you're staying NA, or unless you plan on building a 9,500 rpm all dry sump NA with a huge cam.

Rusty 07-29-2017 03:50 PM

How much money you want to spend?

Elmo370z 07-29-2017 03:55 PM

Porting the upper and lower will net you a few Hp. If you want to benefit from all the porting bump up the compression

What's your end goal? Are you staying NA, or do you plan to go FI?

For now I'm staying NA, but I'm trying to squeeze every HP I can out of her. I went with the M370 upper intake manifold and I like the results. I'm planning on porting the lower soon.

That was the same thing I was thinking. I have seen you will gain whp and wtq if you port and polish your stock upper and lower intake manifold it the worth it naturally aspirated.

Port match, and polish is worth it in any motor. N/A or FI. Most of the new motors need VERY little done to them.

If all you are doing is massaging the intake manifold, you're not going to gain much - not worth the time/effort/expense, IMNSHO.

As part of changing all intake/exhaust plumbing, all that is really needed is some port matching and polishing. Even then, it's not going do do much for a NA engine. Any changes in plenum/runner volume or shape should be left to the experts.

40 years ago, you could get a noticeable boost with a good port/polish job. Not so much nowadays as the engineers have already done most of that in order to meet emissions and MPG regulations.

PS: Don't know if it still applies but when we were doing a port/polish job on 60-70s engines, we'd go ahead and match the exhaust ports and trim the valve guide bosses, too. Trimming didn't do a lot of good, just an as-long-as-we-have-the-engine-apart thing.
