AAM Short Tails Illegal in Texas?
My car just failed inspection cause of my short tails. Inspector said its because it doesnt have a muffler. Anyone else deal with this before in Texas?

Google is your friend...
"Texas state inspectors inspect the exhaust system for holes, leaking seams, or patches on the muffler, resonators, exhaust pipe, tailpipe, or catalytic converter. 2. Every motor vehicle shall at all times be equipped with muffler in good working order and in constant operation." |

I passed last year and this year i took it to the same place and my car failed. I have cats, he specifically said it was because my car doesnt have a muffler. Now from what i hear to is since i failed i cant take it anywhere else i have to take it back to the same place to get reinspected.

I'm so glad where I'm at here in TN that inspections, safety or smog, are nonexistent.

You still have the stock muffler? It'd probably be easiest to just throw that back on to pass and then take it off the next day.

Yeah, going with the consensus here...salty inspector.

I am pretty sure a muffler has nothing to do with emissions, it only controls sound from what I understand. You are going to have the same percentage of carbon coming out of your exhaust as if you had a muffler so I dont get the problem. Correct me if im wrong...
