What happened to Stillen exhausts?

I see Stillen CAI still get a lot of attention, but I dont see much buzz or questions about Stillen exhausts? When they first came out people loved them. What happened to them? Are there better options available, or am I missing something?

Yes and yes.

They're heavy, even compared to stainless equivalents.

Nixin 09-08-2016 05:48 PM

They are still available but so are other, better, CBE's.

Fast Intentions happened.

It's just a preference and like anything else there will always be a flavor of the month, today's hot nightclub is next years dive.

The exhaust is heavy but I still like mine and I really like that the mufflers are hidden and it's not too loud, but when people want to turn heads from the noise you make going by then FI does that. Downside is you get to live with that daily in the cab and I personally don't like when you can see the mufflers hanging down so low on the z so that limits options to Stillen, Berk and I think motor dyne has an Oem type fit?

Was highly considering Stillen because of CARB exemption, but weight and supposed low height really turned me off.

From there I'm leaning more towards a Nismo takeoff or a GReddy's offerings if they're surely CARB exempt.

Yuuup....like mentioned a lot of better exhaust systems came out....Stillen was big.in the beginning as they were one of the first to come out with an aftermarket exhaust for the Z34. Their exhaust didn't sound too bad either....the weight was an issue for a lot of people...I for one didn't care for the tips...they extended out too much for my taste

Catback exhaust doesn't have shít to do with CARB. You can run any exhaust.

Now, are all exhausts legal? I bet they're all illegal in some county or city because they're too loud. Solution? Don't drive like a moron in front of a cop, lol

But as for CARB, exhausts don't matter.
Want to buy my STILLEN? Gimme a shout, lol

I liked my stillen good power a little quiet but the way the tips stuck out was why I sold it. Besides I had to have the CARBON FI look to compliment my CF duck bill.

We do have one of the best exhaust for making power. STILLEN and Fast Intentions have long since been the top two in that regard. However, on the forums you tend to find people with a certain taste. We are definitely not very loud and that seems to be what a lot of people go for.

These exhausts are still one of our best sellers so I can only assume most of the people buying them are not forum members :)

I get what you mean by the tips. Took me a bit to adjust after I installed and stepped back and went damn those things are obvious. But now I like them and make the exhaust obvious it's not Oem when next to another, they do seem to fit better with the Nismo bumper (which I don't have) so I guess it has to fit both cars with one tip and does it pretty well. I would rather have a little bit of a big tip showing than two massive cans sitting under the car, I just can't do that look. Too much Honda, Subaru ricer boy look.

I agree. I like how it has a nice little purr at lighter throttle instead of a low drone. Last car had the deep powerful exhaust sound which is nice but after years of ownership gets irritating and causes headach on longer drive or stuck in traffic. The two things that put me off about F.I. Was the look on the z (I saw and heard their exhaust on a g37 with the oval (traditional) mufflers and liked that a lot as it was hidden but on the z they stand out too much for my taste, maybe if they had an option to do their oval muffler in a stacked configuration like Stillen I would have been more tempted as their fit, finish and craftsmanship of F.I. Is top notch. And second was some mentioning drone under 2500rpm even with 18" resonators. The Stillen actually made my cab noise quieter than Oem and light throttle accelertion (traffic crawling).o

In the end it's all preference. I like that Stillen and F.I. Are the only two to have dynos to back their claims so between those two it's just a matter of taste. If my z wasn't a daily driver and I could get over the look then it would have been a harder choice between the two.

Any drone with the Stillen setup?
