Exhaust with the best gains?

Hi,

Looking to change up the sound from my '14 touring w/sport. Currently all stock, looking to start with exhaust. First priority is gains, second is sound. If you could spread some knowledge on what exhausts have given the best power increases, I could narrow down my options and choose one that will both increase power and sound good.

I plan on leaving the stock intake. Maybe changing headers not sure yet. Also, test pipes or hfcs? Again, first priority is power but I don't want something so loud that it is heard from miles away. I have utilized the search function but I have found multiple contradicting answers.

Thanks!!!

There is knowledge spread throughout the forum. You are not the first person to ask these questions

Get some Post-MAF tubes and R2C dry filters for the stock intakes

Test Pipes for power, HFCs for quieter sound.

Of course you found multiple contradicting answers. Because you are asking for contradicting results. Loudness increases with power when it comes to the exhaust system. You can't have both power and quiet unless you want to install some cutouts or buy one of the extremely overpriced exhausts with them built in. If you have already listened to all of the exhaust audio clips, my recommendation is to try to find some local Z's where you can hear their exhausts in person to compare sound. Then find power data for each exhaust from the forum and determine what exhaust works best for YOUR needs :twocents:

Any dual 2.5" will make similar gains. Even 3" singles make similar power. So if you stay NA, don't get wrapped up in it

I gained 20whp with my fast intentions exhaust. Has a great sound. The fast intentions resonated test pipes gained me 11whp with 20whp and 15ft/lb gain through the powerband.

I've heard the single exit Tomei exhaust has the best gains, but I'm not sure if you'd want your car looking like something is missing without two pipes.

do you have the 12inch 18inch resonators or straight through design.

cooltoy 03-27-2016 12:04 PM

Resonators do not effect the gains, just sound.

fantaZ 03-27-2016 12:34 PM

yea i heard that just want to know how loud straight through apposed to 18inch resonators or even 12inch.

cooltoy 03-27-2016 12:37 PM

No res - loud, 12 res - less loud, 18 res -just under legal decibel level.

He has 18" resonators.

fantaZ 03-27-2016 12:41 PM

the reason i asked is that i just bought the 18inch unit and hope it would be just the right sound for my 2013 nismo. i'll be running no resonators on my test pipes.

cooltoy 03-27-2016 12:53 PM

I have 18", but I am not a fan of loud exhausts. Everything else is stock. 18" screams plenty loud for me at higher RPMs. People definitely know when I am passing them, before I pass them. Reasonably quite at low RPMs.

I hear that I am 51yrs old I want it to sound like a mod nismo car but not like a 18yrs old tuner's lowered honda. Thanks alot for giving me a insight of what mine can be like. I think i made the right choice.

cooltoy 03-27-2016 01:39 PM

I think you did too. It will sound much louder initially, but will quite down as it breaks in over a week or so. Sometimes I miss that pre-break in sound, but I am not sure I could live with it daily.

fantaZ 03-27-2016 01:49 PM

thats how i feel too loud every day the i'd start to say i need to take this off and go back to stock.
