BP Aluminium exhaust options
 

Got some work done on my own car today, experimenting with exhausts and aluminium. First up, 3.5" single, with Virbant mufflers:

Then I moved on to a a single 3.5" to the axle, splitting in to dual 3":

The dual is a bit quieter because of the extra muffler.

Overall, I am really happy with both, but will keep the dual on since it is a bit quieter. Entire exhaust weights are awesome. The single comes in at 8lbs, and the dual is at a whopping 10lbs. The pipes on the 3.5" section have a 3 mm (1/8") wall thickness, so plenty material to provide great longevity and durability.

One of the local 370z customers is coming in for fitment/build of these same exhausts, and I hope to offer them for the 370z guys as well.

The single 3.5" will be around $600 and the dual would be about $900 or so. Still have to sit down and actually account for all the parts/materials.

With the 3.5", I hope to make it run all the way to the turbo, the section (about 3') closest to the turbo would be made out of stainless though, as the exhaust temperature is still high.

Awesome! You should attempt to do a 4 inch single also

There is absolutely no reason anybody would ever need a 4" exhaust.

How much power would the 3.5 inch be able to flow?

Should support 1,000whp +. There are basically no bends in it (on the 3.5" single), so flow will be optimal.

I have been contemplating changing my 2.5" fast intentions exhaust for a 3" to free up some more power from my twin turbo. What i need to make sure is if it will bolt up to my downpipes. Need to ask Tony if my downpipes are full 3" or 3" that transition to 2.5" to the exhaust. Very good pricing.

Aluminium ............... methinks it won;t last very long before embrittlement kicks in and it fails.

I think what helps preventing that would be the stainless portion after the turbo and the wall thickness he is using. That's something that came to mind when I thought about this aluminum exhaust.

Correct, I would not go with Aluminium right off the turbo, it is just too hot. And yes, this is thick wall tubing, not worried at all.

Did I miss the sound clip somewhere on the single?

Interesting idea and kudos for the R&D. This would be great weight savings for a heavily tracked car that wants to keep some street-ability with respect to noise. The welds fatiguing out over time would be my only concern (both at the pipe connections and the hangers). Aluminum's strength isn't great at temperature. My stainless exhaust grows quite a bit after some hard driving: the tips protrude out an additional 1/2" or more from their "cold" location. Aluminum will grow even more which could stress the hangers and other weld joints between hangers depending on the configuration...I only see one hangar in the photos but I'm sure you have more. Time will tell but props again for trying something new and bringing more options to our platform.

Is there any update to this as far as longevity and durability?

Very interesting idea indeed and hats off to you for trying to help out the 370Z community. I believe the extra weight saving from being aluminum would definitely benefit a track duty Z possibly not as much a street driven Z. Aluminum may be light and bends easy depending on the quality of the aluminum used but, my question would be is this durable for a street driven Z? Would this aluminum exhaust be manufactured in different sizes to support different 370Z enthusiasts power levels on their vehicle? What is in the works??
