Need Help-Blown Exhaust Gaskets

I wanted to see if anyone could help me with something I just noticed today while changing my oil. I have had my Invidia exhaust and AAM Test pipes for about 7000 miles now and noticed that three of the exhaust gaskets are blown out. Two at the back of the X pipe and one before the muffler. Any idea why this is? I am going to just put new ones in but would rather it not just happen all over again. I used the gaskets that came with the exhaust.

i dont know but if the exhaust gasket is blown is it louder or sound weird.

Pics? What do you mean by blown? Part of it is missing?

You purchase new or used? If used, then new gaskets should be solve your problem. Or if you installed new gaskets with your Invidia exhaust mated to your cats and then later installed the AAM TPs. I like to use new gaskets whenever one of the mating surfaces changes (though its not always necessary).

If everything is new, then that's kinda odd. I might contact whoever you got the gaskets from and ask them about your specific situation.

if they'blown then buy new ones..... vibrant gaskets works... could buy them from amazon or z1motorsports.

When gaskets go missing from exhaust pipes that are bolted together it is usually caused by bolts coming loose. Lock washers could help placed under the nuts prior to tightening. Next make sure that all of the rubber isolators are not ripped or weakened. Pipes can't touch body anywhere but you would hear that. As mentioned by others the exhaust sound must have changed at some point. Lastly if there is damage and the flanges don't fit tightly together then the joint would leak and part of the gasket could blow out. Close inspection might be needed.

I have black on the pipe where it is basically leaking and the gasket looks like it is missing or damaged in the area of the black leak mark. I will take pictures in the morning. I started to smell the exhaust a lot more in the cabin and when my windows were opened and I was at lights it was a very strong smell.

I checked the bolts and it did seem one was slightly loose but the other areas had tight bolts.

I am going to just buy new ones but was curious if anyone knew why it would happen.

The exhaust was bought brand new from Invidia and the gaskets were sent by them as well. The system is loud in the first place so a difference in that would not be noticed.

Your brand new exhaust came with a damaged flange? :icon14: I would be sending that pic to Invidia and getting a new exhaust.

Barring that, some Red RTV sealant on the damaged flange with new gaskets should take care of the leak :twocents:

No- after 10,000 or so miles the exhaust gasket is now blown. see pictures attached

Replace them with gaskets from invidia or vibrant.

These were gaskets from Invidia that did this. This is what came with the exhaust.

All of this is still not telling me what could have caused this with less then 10,000 miles on the exhaust.

Not tightened enough? Tightened too much? Who knows. Replace the gasket with red rtv and go on with your life. That's aftermarket parts for you - there's always something to deal with.

It looks like either a bolt was loose or the flange(s) is damaged. Once a leak started, the exhaust gasses cut through the gasket. There may also be some cutting of the flange(s).

Get some good gaskets (any decent brand should work well), inspect the flanges for damage, replace gaskets, make sure flanges are tight and square, carry on.
