Can't decide - AAM Shortails / Beluga Catback / Beluga Axleback
I'm stuck at a 3 way tie for what I want to purchase for my Z.
AAM Short tails: Pros: They look good, and seem to fit good and sound great. Cons: I fear they may be too loud for my area in regards of police and my living accommodations. I usually leave for work around 6:00am and I don't think my neighbors would enjoy the noise, nor do I want to get complaints from my landlord about it. Beluga Catback Pros: Fitment and sound and build quality look good. Roughly the same price as the short tails, but for a catback instead of an axleback. Cons: Slightly less volume when compared to the AAM's? Beluga Axleback Pros: Build and sound quality look good. Cheapest of all options. Cons: Fitment seems off. From the photos and video's I've seen when placed on a non nismo Z, they stick out instead of being flush with the bumper. I'd love to hear anyone's experiences with any of these. I'd love to go with the AAM Short tails but the sheer volume has me a little worried. Thanks! |
What are you trying to get out of it? A different tone for under $500?

Yes. Not looking for performance gains the car has enough for now. Just looking to increase the volume and tone a bit. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
I have AAM on my car. I have received a lot of compliments from complete strangers. My neighbors also are very aware when I drive my Z to work, I leave at 6am also, but they don't complain. It's usually "oh, I heard you leave this morning"
I also had to put some sound dampening material in my trunk area because I was getting some vibration/reverb in the back over 4k rpm. |

Interesting. How's the noise at idle and under 3k? I live in an apartment complex and we park our cars directly behind the building. (Less than 5 feet from the building.) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

After reading this thread I'm starting to really consider the shorttails. Worst case scenario they're too loud and I'll sell them and get something different. I saw that video in your thread when I was searching about the short tails! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

That's good to know. How has drone on the highway been for you? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I have the beluga Axleback and Y pipe combo and its perfect. Not to much drone and just the right volume. Makes the car sound alot better and i love the look of it.

I have gotten 3 complaints from people that my Z is way too loud and I have only been living where I have for 10 months lol.
I'm running the Fast Intentions 18" resonated CF exhaust with oem cats. But before that I ran the AAM short tails with stock exhaust mid pipes and cats I love the sound and the look they give, fitment was great and AAM definitely delivers a good product. Were they loud with OEM cats yeah. Did I care not necessarily. Plus my complaints from "being loud" which in general is just the car being loud have come when I come in after 10pm and I believe it is a person's apartment pretty much right in front of where I park. They complain that they have to be up early for work at 6:30am the next morning. I told my manager (very laid back guy) that I get up an hour earlier than them so they shouldn't complain lol, so ever since the first complaint, if he gets another one he does his "due diligence" and tells me that I got another complaint and leaves it at that lol. Never has it been from a cold starting early in the morning. If anything I love being an alarm clock for other people in the complex. From what I understand beluga's product has never been the best and doesn't provide a flattering sound either for the VQHR platform. You get what you pay for is what my motto is with car parts lol |
i have the beluga catback + Y pipe
imo Fitment: great Quality: great Drone: None Loud: 7/10 I personally didn't think my setup was loud enough so I'm ordering a pair of AAM COMP Test pipes. |
