Berk HFC Failure?! Need opinions.

Hello everyone.. So recently I've been hearing a faint hissing noise from my HFC/Headers area WHILE I am accelerating. It has become much louder in the last few days..

I know it is common to hear this when the RPMs are coming down.. but you can hear it hiss when the car is in idle and when you rev it/drive on it between 1-2.5k RPMS. I bought my Berk HFCs used a while back from a local Z owner but they were pitch black when I got them (very used:confused:) I have about 8-10k miles on them myself and have never heard this.. Do you guys think the HFCs have failed?
My idle is fine (700-850RPMS)

I already took it to Nissan and the Tech told me that he checked all the bolts and gaskets from my HFC all the way back down to the exhaust and has not found any leaks and believes it may be close to the headers but he cannot find out until he takes it all apart. Below is a link to a video where you can hear me revving up..

If that doesn't work click on this below

Anyone have any idea what this is?
Should I replace back to stock cats and see if this fixes it?

The help is greatly appreciated.

If it's happening at idle, get a few feet of garden hose, put an end to your ear, and move the free end along the piping until the sound is loudest. That should tell you whether it's a leak or the HFC.

Yes, I have berks hfc and it's hiss free at idle

Only when decelerating between 2.5-3k

I distinctively remember one of the HFCs having a slight internal rattle when I bought them from the local guy.. (I shook them when I bought it to check) But I didn't think it was a big deal before I put them on. Might need to get new hfc/tp to find out.

Updated with photo link as well. Both are working on my tapatalk and computer. Let me know if you still have issues with it.

So it is supposed to hiss during acceleration and possibly idle?

My friend has the same exhaust and hfc setup I have and his only does it when the RPMs are coming down (like we all know they're supposed to do)

Mine has always hissed a bit. You can always do what was recommended further up, or put the stockers back on. Mine were also bought used with a couple thousand miles on it.

Reviving this thread a bit. I have my berk hfc paired with a non resonated FI exhaust. I do not have a hiss, except for decel at close to idle, normal.

Recently i started getting a metallic rattle clacking noise on acceleration or maintenance throttle at 2.5-2.8 k rpm. I can also be at a stand still and Rev it at that rpm and hear this rattle. It only does it after it has warmed up a bit and it sounds like it's coming from the hfc directly underneath. The sound is embarrassingly obnoxious to the point even the wife is asking what is wrong with my car this time.

I put my oen cat on and the rattle is gone.

Is my hfc failing?
My car sees frequent track days and canyon drives as well, so it sees a lot of hard driving.

I'm getting ready to gut this thing and turn it into a test pipe, any help is appreciated before I do this, thanks!

Yup, your HFC is failing. They rattle when they do that.

Thanks for the input. I'll add that it's interesting because I cannot see in visual signs of failure looking at the honey comb, nothing when I bang them together. I did reinstall them but with z1 gaskets I had waiting to be installed, it seemed to help, but not 100%. My other thought is if it's exhaust leak related. Only thing to do is tighten the bolts to Holy **** and put more miles.

Interesting.

Where does the normal "hiss" derive from? I have FI HFC's and the passenger side began hissing on decel after a couple of thousand miles.

Inflaymes 10-09-2022 11:42 PM

Don't VQ's hiss anyway on decel?
