OPINIONS: Having Trouble Choosing which Brand to Buy!

I'm needing opinions on these 3 brands for the y-pipe that I need.
I know some members have had the parts installed, all I need is some feedback on which part would be best for my Z.
(Recently installed Berk HFC and Apexi-RS exhaust. Needing a better Y-pipe since the stock is crap.)

1) Magnaflow XYZ
2)Tanabe Y-Pipe
or
3) AAM Y-Pipe

Thanks! :tiphat:

To be honest, any Y-Pipe will do. Even a cheap one off eBay, though there might be quality issues. If you want to stick with JDM go with Tanabe otherwise I would say you would be fine with something like the TopSpeed Y-pipe.

I see...I'm just worried about the sound changing lol Right now it has a really low growling sound which I like. I heard that whichever Pipe you get, it can change the tone and sound when you accelerate. btw, what the difference from a Y,H and X pipe?

Gilianz 07-28-2015 10:54 AM

It can a little bit but from what I've heard not by much as the material is the same. What can change it is the configuration sick as the y, h and x pipe. They are just the design of the pipe and how the gases flow of of them. I'm not too knowledgeable about that so it's hard for me to explain. I'm sure you could find am answer online.

:icon17: ;)

Each pipe looks like it's letter. If you need a Y-pipe, you won't be able to use an X or H-pipe.

A Y-pipe connects to the both cats (your HFCs) on one end and a mid-pipe with a single outlet on the other end.

X and H-pipes have two outlets on each end in a true dual exhaust design. The crossover is to balance the exhaust pressures.

This image is a decent example of X and H-pipes. The Y-pipe shown is different than the Z because the Z transitions back to a dual exhaust in the mid-pipe (unless you have aftermarket exhaust with true dual exhaust design).

Nice thanks for the image! :tiphat:
So im guessing since I have HFC and a CBE I'll have to get a Y-pipe lol
I'm debating on either the Tanabe or AAM right now...Looking at Top Speed too...

also from my experience X pipes usually yield the best power gains

Nope. It has nothing to do with your HFCs. And all cars have CBE - that just means an exhaust from the catalytic converter(s) to the back. The reason you have to use a Y-pipe is the design of the CBE. Specifically in this case because you're running a single exit exhaust. That image I posted of the Y-pipe is pretty much exactly what you are running.

Some CBE (like the stock exhaust and a variety of aftermarket exhausts) use a Y-pipe with a mid-pipe that pinch down to one outlet. A true dual CBE (like Fast Intentions) uses an X or H-pipe, so there are two pipes running the entire length of the exhaust.

Wish I had a True dual CBE lol

Then why did you buy a single exit exhaust lol :icon14:

The APEX'i is not singe exit. My Tomei is but I had the APEX'i and it was a dual although it is not true dual.

I guess I was looking at the Apexi-RS Evolution. My fault :tiphat: Still, the mid-pipe on the non-evolution is similar to stock in that utilizes the single exit from the Y-pipe and transitions to dual pipes going into the mufflers.

Wait... so you do have a single exit?

And I wasn't questioning your decision. As long as you're happy  But if you wanted true dual, that's very different from single exit lol

Tanabe Y-pipe without a doubt, buy it and don't look back.:tiphat:
