maf housing

Hey guys I'm thinking about doing a custom cai set up. I currently have the hps silicon hoses and k&n drop ins. I love the set up, and felt a gain on higher rpms. But I really wanna make it a cold air with smoother airflow than the factory airbox. I know the airboxes are pretty much cold air intakes on there own, but just want to do something different to see if it improves. My question is, where can I get a pair of maf housings and what size should I be looking for? Any suggestions? Please and thank you.

I think the guys that have custom made their CAI, just used the stock MAF housing and built the rest of the system. At least that's what it looks like from the pictures in their threads -

Actually, it looks like Modshack ended up making his own MAF housings later on-

Thanks man I'll send modshack a pm so see if I can get a set of those

Bigd4mcc 05-25-2015 10:47 AM

Ok so I just pmed modshack and he's not making them anymore. Does anyone know where I can find a set, or will it work if I take a dremmil to the stock box and leave the factory housing? Cause if I'm not mistaking, the factory housing is about the same size as the stillen g3 set uparent they?

Will this help ?

I'm that first link. Honestly I don't think you need to go bigger. The stock size is the same size as the stillen gen 3. I'm now 2.75" OD and gained nothing I believe. If you must, I just got the pipe and housings off eBay from a guy and welded it up.

What if I use the stock housing? And then fabricate my piping 2.5 the rest of the way?

synolimit 05-26-2015 06:41 PM

Then you'd do the same thing in my post that's been linked twice.

So I'm about to go to the shop to fab up my intake. I used the housing off the factory box for the maf. For the mean time before I head to the shop I stuck the filters directly on the maf housing just to drive it over there. Well it's loud but the car isn't really going anywhere. It feels really sluggish. What causes this?

Yours MAF's are hating you. They need to be in a nice long straight piece. With the filters right there who knows what kinda air they're getting. That's why most cars have these...

Check everything over but once the intake is complete it should be fine.

Oh ok haha dang. Well I might just be doing a short ram this go around then next month I'll take the bumper off and dig in to the rest :excited:

Doing a short ram is taking a step backwards. Why would you modify the factory intake to make it a worse condition?

AH the old honeycombs. I remember we could remove the sides and the bottom combs on our DSM's to get some added flow and pick up a few WHP and throttle response. :driving:

Read back on the thread, I'm not doing just a short ram, I'm gonna finish it into a cold air next month. I would do it all today but don't have time to. I'll try to post Pics if I get a chance to

Yes they do kill power unless your run into the MAF sucks then they should help haha. My car was crazy like this once with a ram air effect until I figured it out. It was fine on wot but closed loop it ran like **** if a gust of wind on the highway came into the bumper hole and into the intake.

Bigd4mcc 05-29-2015 06:29 PM

It's not too bad as a short ram, it losses power on low end but about 4 to 7 it screams and picks up a little quicker. I know as soon as I am done it will be better. I'm in south Texas and it's hotter than Satan's nutt sack here. Even with the humidity of a ******* steam room the short ram is performing better than I thought.
