bad noise after Berk TP install
So this past weekend I installed a Takeda long tube intake, Berk Tesp Pipes (non res) and JWT flywheel.
So anytime I get around 2500-3000k RPMS during acceleration and decel, I get a bad Rattle noise, Then it smooths out and and sounds as it should. So I can tell the difference between the hiss on decel, the normal rasp of non res pipe during accel, and the jitter from the flywheel on low RPM, but this rattle sound I cannot figure out. Any one experience anything similar? I'll try to get a video later. |
Also forgot to mention, 2 of the hangers that hold up the my Stillen CBE near the Ypipe seems to be gone (previous owner broke them I'm guessing) so the Y pipe was close to the cross member, So i tightened everything up, added some rubber matting between the pipe and the cross member and it made no difference.

I think you're hearing hiss. Welcome to test pipes

No metal on metal? I had Berk CBE and their resonated TP I thought mine came from metal on metal but never found the problem. I put pressure on the exhaust tips once and the noise went away. But I never did figure it all out. Maybe a bolt needs more torque

It really sounds like metal on metal but nothing I see until I get it up on a lift again tonight. even in 4th and 5th on the high way with the windows up there is a prevalent rattle any time I give it a little gas. I had straight stillen on my 350 as well so I'm definitely used to a raspy exhaust and I don't mind it at all. Everyone keeps saying its just TP rasp. but unless there is some major change on the 370 that I haven't read about yet I can't figure it out. Its a pretty loud rattle, way louder than the actual exhaust tone.

I'd double check that everything is tight again, try and see 8f some pressure on the exhaust tip 2ill quiet the soun. Sounds stupid

yeah i'll give anything a go at this point, its embarrassing to drive.

It's normal with the stillen cbe. I had this setup, there's a video onmy for sale thread. I just learned to either go slower threw that section of engine rpms or faster so you couldn't hear it as bad. Yes it sounds like $hit

This is 100% for sure due to acoustic resonance no longer canceled out by the OEM cats.
The only solution is to swap out the current TP's installed for a set of resonated TP's (or resonated HFC's). Alternatively, you can get LTH's which will change the acoustics, but obviously swapping out one set of TP's for another is the easier solution |

Resonated pipes won't work as I had Berk resonated pipes and I still had that noise. Maybe some wrap would solve it.

I think the issue may be from your berk product since we seem to have the same issue. I'm going to have an exhaust shop take a look at my whole thing to see if there's any leak in the system. |
+1
My test pipes buzz the crap out of my Berk exhaust. I'm going to experiment with putting some dynamat on top of the Berk cans to try and change their resonance but I've not got around to that yet. If it fails I'm probably going to ng to have to pop on some resonated test pipes. (Ug! more weight) |
