Yep, that's the only reason I don't have them on my car right now.

I think the hypocrisy in the fact that the person responsible for these air pollution laws (Schwarzenegger) is famous for driving Hummers and smoking cigars is mindblowing. Of course, we've seen how much respect his wife has for cell phone and handicapped parking laws, so I'm assuming he probably has a fleet of sports cars that would fail them miserably.

^ CA does have routine inspections which includes a visual inspection plus tailpipe test. As long as your CEL isn't on indicating a CAT failure and they see that there is a Cat behind your exhaust manifold, I doubt you would fail the test given that the emissions would probably still pass the tailpipe. Do you know if the aftermarket cats have their brand stamped into the cat which might tip off the mechanic that its not stock? I.e, does it look stock?

The people responsible for all the legislation similar to this goat-f#$k must be forced to read, Clockwork Orange-style, a book entitled "Unintended Consequenses." They will receive their just rewards.

They do but that happens every 6 yrs after the vehicles purchase. So there is some time before you have to worry about that. All you have to do is keep your stock manifolds and cats, put them on before the test, and u are all set. Also even though OBDI cats are illegal, you can still get them installed from various reputable perfomance shops like SP Engineering or Technosquare and buy them out of state. :driving:
