Oil cooler hose to elbow junction leaking

Hi guys,
I installed my GTM oil cooler (including hoses) in early January and have found the fittings to now be leaking. I lost about one quart of oil before noticing the problem. I discovered the problem due to the oil on my garage floor, which was a very recent occurrence. I have driven the car for about a month with no issues and now find the fitting where the hose connects to the elbows are leaking. This was determined while the car was at idle and watching oil drip off the junctions. On the installation I used blue Permatex threadlocker on the threads connecting to the oil cooler fittings and the "sandwich" plate threads near the oil filter, these were fine. On the install I did not adjust the "factory" torque on the hose to elbow junctions, they appeared very snug and did not leak initially.

What do you recommend? I really hate oil leaks and do not want less than a perfect scenario.

Thanks

Sorry to hear about the problem Nikon.

I believe you posted this in the wrong forum. This is GT Motoring, and not GTM.

I believe you might be the second to have an issue with the GTM oil cooler kit. A few weeks back, another customer of theirs said one of their hoses burst.

And by the way, I see that you have an image of the stock Rays wheels painted white in your photo album. Is that a Photoshop or not? If not, must see more!

I've experienced this a little as well from the GTM kit. Mine appears to be just a very slight seepage from where the AN fitting meets the steel braided line. I have not lost any significant amount of oil, just barely one drop has ever shown, however I can see the Redline oil accumulating around those fittings. I am just wondering if I did not torque them down enough, or over torqued them. My question / comment is, once you have attached all the fittings, those angles should no longer move / wiggle from side to side at all, correct? Does anyone know a specific amount that these need to be torqued down with?

Call GTM. They will help you out:tup:

Do you have their number? I purchased the GTM kit that Tardcore had and it appears that seepage is from the edges of the AN fittings where it meets the lines. Is that normal? Are the AN fittings supposed to rotate freely? I am now thinking it was not a good idea to have purchased that GTM kit from Tardcore .....

Any updates on what GTM did to fix the problem?

I am still awaiting GTM to mail back the new lines. I spoke to Sam a while back and he mentioned that due to all the negative incidents that they will be revising the kit, or I should say to make it an actual kit with pictures and instructions. I am not certain as to whether they will be revising it with different angled fittings as of yet, as I have not received the new lines. I will update accordingly as I get the lines back and make time to install.

I'm interested in this kit, so I'm in for updates :-)

I missed the FedEx delivery today so I need to go and pick up my package. I believe the package is my new GTM oil cooler hoses. I'm assuming any hose/fittings issues have been resolved. It took quite a while to get this package (new hoses and fittings) so hopefully install instructions/DVD…etc will be included as well. When I get the package (could be a couple days) I'll post again what all was included.

Does anyone know of a company in Austin that would install the Nissan Motorsports unit for me. I am not a DIY person unfortunately and it appears my dealer has never done one and I would hate to be the first for them if I can help it. Any help would be appreciated.

I picked up the new oil cooler hoses from the FedEx "center"………..scary place. The new hoses came with 90 degree elbows on both ends, but no installation information, or return postage or a note asking for the old hoses back?….:ugh2:

Interesting. My wife mailed out my old lines last week (I believe the 23rd), and I have yet to hear from GTM on whether they received the old lines and when the new lines will be shipped out. If they included 90 degrees all the way around, then that would mean they must route underneath the sway bar now, instead of up and over the top of it as the older ones (45?) did.

Odd that you did not get instructions, as Sam told me that due to all of the issues as of late, that they were going to re-evaluate the package to include instructions with photos, and a "how-to" properly install the oil cooler.

I guess they are busy?

I was also having some issues with the oil cooler lines, however this time instead of trying myself had to take it to the mechanic because of paucity of time. got some parts changed aswell.
