Understand people this process of making entirely new manifolds to replace the gtm one's will take a lot of time and r&d to do it right and I don't have that amount of time to again wait to get my car up and going again.

Yeah, if there's any way to patch up what you've got and get back on the road you need to do it. Another few months without boost and we're going to have to put you on suicide watch. :rofl2:

Get the car back on the road and we'll figure out who wants to go into business making replacement manifolds later.

Plus the king mackerel are starting to come in and snapper season isn't too far behind that!!! Anyone like deep sea fishing here? Been working on my boat the past 2 weeks getting it ready for the summer but I NEED MY BOOST!!!!!

Chuck33079 03-21-2014 07:16 AM

Yeah, do whatever's necessary to patch up the manifolds and hammer out the rest of the car. You're what, 30 days from 600whp or so? No sense in dragging it out unless its absolutely necessary.

Dad started me king fishing when I was like three years old. Nothing like the feel of that first run. We took a neighbor one time and when the king took off he tried to slow him down by placing his thumb on the spool. Hard lesson that deep sea fishing is not bass fishing.

tubular manifolds love to crack unless they are really high grade stuff, like welded iwth the pipes back flushed with shield gas using the proper rod with all the same grade of stianless for the parts (at the very least 304 or better). the head flange needs to have all the runners divorced so it can move around as it heats and the wall on the tube needs to be thick enough to fully support the turbo under these conditions. also it is going to dump more heat into the engine bay in a very tight area next to a bunch of stuff that doesn't like to get hot. This is why sets for the 350z cost upwards of $1600. Just throwing that out there.

Yup.

You need good quality tubing, with proper filler rod. The most important thing is back purging with argon, or another inert gas as well as a good gas lens for the tig torch.

I had a local customer who brought in a $1100 FD turbo manifold that was built out of SCH 10 pipe (nice and strong). The welding process was all wrong though. The manufacturer did not back purge and then did not weld with full amperage...the manifold was cracked in about 5 places after 6 months of use.

I re-did every single weld on the manifold (using proper welding procedures)...no issues with it after 3 years of abuse.

Feel like fixing some cracked GTM manifolds? Can you do it fast enough for Cosmo to not do something drastic from boost withdrawal?

That's a nice setup. I like those four stroke engines. First time I got in a boat with one I didn't even think it was running.:rofl2:

I have done it before...welding (arc/tig/mig) is not the right way to fix a cast manifold though :).

Chuck33079 03-21-2014 09:25 AM

Ah, boats. Those things that make project cars seem cheap and reliable. I know, let's take most of the annoying things about engines, and partially immerse them in salt water. What could go wrong? :rofl2:

In all seriousness, that's a very nice rig. I don't want one myself, but I really want one of my close friends to buy one just like it. :rofl2:

Basically, we're looking for someone to fix these damn things in a reasonable time frame. Seems like you might be able to weld a little bit. ;)

Plus, it's yet another way GTM can continue to be the best salesman for BP's products and services. :rofl2:

Do you know a company that can make us a manifold for GTM replacement that you can hook us up with? :D

You could try contacting speedforce racing but it won't be cheap.

Do not start any crap on my thread 1slow370 as you have done before. Oh and before you listen to what this guy has to say keep in mind he was trying to tell Charles how to make a fuel return system and got owned....

I didnt get "owened" we agreed my way of doing the return system would work you just cant fit it on the z. If you read it there are things i said that he would like to do, there just isnt room.

What else could it be? You've gone to way too much effort to go back to stock and ditch the car. Now the real question is how many turbos.
