GTM Performance Engineering: Mild 7 A/T Twin Turbo Build

We would like to share a really nice build we finished up not too long ago with a 7 speed automatic. This is a very well rounded build with a lot of nice touches and was completed here at our California facility. This transformation was an A to Z build done under one roof from installing the turbo to building the transmission and tuning all the way down to the alignment. The only thing that we did not do in house was the upholstery work. For the power, we installed and tuned our Garrett based Stage 2 Twin Turbo Kit along with our GTM 3” downpipes with external wastegates and our 3” cat-back exhaust. This is on the stock engine and 93 octane fuel.

To cope with the torque produced by the engine, the 7 speed automatic was fortified with our Stage 4 transmission build with our proprietary internal components. Here is the description of our Stage 4 transmission from our website:

GTM is proud to offer the Ultimate Transmission upgrades For the Nissan/Infiniti JATCO JR710E 7 Speed Automatic transmission. Our Main focus from the beginning was to offer a complete true solution through out the whole assembly and not only to certain gears. The stage 4 transmission upgrade will add significant improvement to all seven gears of all the transmission parts that listed here .
• GTM Friction Discs
• GTM Separator Plates
• GTM Clutch Module Assemblies
• GTM Torque Converter Friction Discs
• GTM Torque Convertor
• GTM Apply pistons
• GTM Metal surface treatment
• GTM Valve Body
These upgrades results in the improvement listed below:
• Increase Heat capacity resistance by upgrading OE friction material from OEM D-0530-31 to GTM D-0880-88. (35% Over Stock)
• Increase Clutch Friction Plate Surface Area By increasing amount of clutches used (from 32 clutches to 44)
• Increase Torque holding capacities by 40% By using different friction materials and adding more clutch plates
• GTM Separator Plates are used specially-made from high-quality steel to ensure durability, and are done in several processes to control surface finish to meet friction requirements
• GTM Stepped pressure plate
• All Separator and Pressure Plates are Surface treated to increase durability and reduce frictions
• GTM Lube Modification
• GTM Apply Pistons
• GTM shift point and speed modification

In addition to our Twin Turbo Kit and Transmission, this build includes our GTM 70mm Competition Radiator with internal heat exchanger for the transmission fluid and our fan shroud for the OEM fans. We also have our 25 row transmission cooler plumbed in series with our internal heat exchanger to ensure stable fluid temperatures. To keep engine temperatures in check, we also use our 25 row engine oil cooler with our thermostatic sandwich adapter.

With a wicked fast shifting transmission and more than enough torque on tap to overwhelm the rear tires, our GTM Plug and Play Traction Control System was implemented to ensure that the car wasn’t a mobile smoke machine in low gears.

Rounding out the build we installed KW Variant 3 Coilovers, SPC front and rear camber kits, and Hotchkis sway bars with our custom alignment performed on our laser alignment rack. To give the car a little more show to complement the go, the seats, door cards, center console and knee pads were reupholstered with red Alcantera while other trim pieces were finished in a carbon fiber style coating. The calipers were also done in red powder coat and carbon fiber exterior trim pieces were installed.

Overall, the customer was extremely pleased with the way the car turned out and amazed by the way it drove. In reaction to our Traction Control System, he commented that “this is the mod that every car I’ve ever had built was missing”. This, coming from a gentleman owning multiple, highly modified vehicles.

Here is the list of on the car:

• GTM Garrett based Stage 2 Twin Turbo Kit with GT2860RS turbos and .86A/R turbine housings
• GTM Stage 4 Automatic Transmission
• GTM 70mm Competition Radiator with internal heat exchanger and fan shroud for OEM fans
• GTM 3” Donwpipes with external wastegates
• GTM 3” Cat-Back exhaust
• GTM 25 Row Transmission Cooler
• GTM 25 Row Engine Oil Cooler
• GTM 3 gauge package with Defi Boost Gauge, Defi Transmission Fluid Temp Gauge, and Innovate Air/Fuel Ratio Gauge

Great results!
Sam, did you guys every do any data logging on a car before & after your radiator upgrade kit? Curious to see how yours performs.

Wow. Great numbers! ! That had to cost a ton for all those upgrades but I'm sure it is well worth it. Nice job.

It is mild in comparison to our upcoming V8 Twin Turbo powered 370Z or our Positive Displacement Supercharged V8 370Z. ;)

It will be an option available from GTM. ;)

We'll offer them in three different forms: Turbocharged, Positive Displacement Supercharged, and Naturally Aspirated with Individual Throttle Bodies.

KaienZ34 03-15-2013 03:20 PM

What type of V8, LSX??

G37sHKS 03-15-2013 03:20 PM
