Stillen SC help!

I have a Stillen SC with a 9lb pulley, 928 Impeller, new belt, headers, test pipe, and exhaust. The problem is when it is on a DYNO I can't get two runs that look alike. The shop is saying that the belt is slipping to much to. Has anyone out there done the same mods and had success? My goal was 450WHP but they are only putting down 410 and that is not enough.
Thanks for your help

I had a little belt slippage at first, you can tighten it. It fixed mine, never happened again.

Nut_N_Much 10-03-2012 07:44 PM

Hey,
Kelly and I had this same problem with his car. When the tuner puts the fan in front of the radiator it started to change each run. Unable to get a base line. Mainly effected low RPMs before the boost kicks in.

What we did was take a small sheet of aluminum and bend a shield to mount on the bumper. The shield blocked the air flow from the fan allowing consistent runs. Runs like a Bat out of hell now!! Was effecting his tune on the street before the fix.

ISSUE: Air flow sensors are to close to the filters on the stillen intake. During our runs we used a piece of card board to block that air flow at low RPMs.

TEST: Try a run with the fan off just to get a reading, then do it again. If there the same or close then its the fan blowing air into the air filters. Mainly effects computer before the boost kicks in at the lower RPMs, makes it hard to get a baseline before the tuner starts his runs. .

Hope this helps..

Thanks all I will let the tuners know. They ordered a new tentioner and if that don't fix it I will have them try a run without the fan on.

Did they use the same size belt? You generally will have to use a smaller belt as well. We had to do that on the 03-04 cobras and supercharged CTS-V' that we have done.

Alex,
When I first bought the SC it came with a 9lb pulley then they had some problems and they sent out a 8lb pulley no new belt needed. So I thought that the original belt would be fine. National Speed said the belt may have stretched over the 9k miles I have put on the car since I have had it installed. NS called Stillen and they said oh well you should have ordered the belt with the pulley... I was not very happy with Stillen when I was told that. NS ordered a smaller belt and it still slips. So today we will find out what is going on with the car. Fingers crossed.

If this does not work that is my next step. Does anyone know how much it will cost?

Keep in mind, this isn't just a remove old and install these. These will require some customization like spacers, minor alignment of the blower and such. You will also need a re-tune.

These are the parts i have installed:

cog belt $21.95: (gates 560-8mgt20 OR vortech part #: 2a042-070)

Supercharger cog $132.95: 2A032-030 50mm

jackshaft pulley $94.95: 4GR032-034

idler pulley $38.95: 4gr116-300 3inch

An is a PIA, LOL Will also up boost a few PSI thats the reason for the retune.

Damn!

Mr squeeze should get paid for his idea of the cog setup lol.

wifedrivenZ 10-08-2012 01:34 PM

Quick update. Still waiting on the tentioner to come in then I should have the car on the dyno and give you a real update.
Thanks

Helped me alot,

wifedrivenZ 10-09-2012 05:57 PM

Ok so I just got off the phone with National speed and they are only getting 410whp. They fixed the belt slipping and still getting the same results. They sent the tune to uprev and they are saying it may be the test pipes causing the car to lose boost. We are doing to go back with the cats to see if we can get a little bit more HP. As always I will keep you informed. Stay tuned for dyno charts.

?? You will lose boost with TP's but should make the same power? Just @ not as much PSI? What PSI are you seeing, I might have missed it.

wifedrivenZ 10-10-2012 08:18 AM

9.3lbs

ANMVQ 10-10-2012 08:31 AM

Hmm, I was seeing i more PSI , (Stock cats) but to be at only 410WHP is weird, I would have expected at least 440 ish, How is the TQ with the impeller, I'm trying to get my car sorted out and have no been able to retune it yet, maybe with the headers and TP's its too much, I thought I saw a guy on here running headers with a SC but dont remember what his outcome was with it,

kellyefields 10-10-2012 08:46 AM

I am running stillen headers and stillen HFC and making more power with less PSI it seems like. I am currently setting at 432 at only 6psi.

dynojet?

wifedrivenZ 10-10-2012 06:45 PM

Do you think it could be the tuner? Should I look for another tuner? Could I have a bad part that is not letting me get the numbers I am looking for?

That is one optimistic dyno.

To OP, what kind of dyno are you running on? And what is the TQ? Honestly your numbers sound pretty well spot on assuming the graph and TQ look alright. Different dynos will read far differently, you're in for a bad time if the only thing you're doing is looking at HP numbers with no other factors taken into consideration.

to put my numbers in perspective when the car was originally tuned by a shop that shall remain un named in WPB dynod the car on a mustang dyno and gave me a chart of 405hp. when I went to get a proper tune the shop here in Tampa put the car on an pulled a number of 398hp but it was detonating bad on top end and the air fuel was all jacked up. Spent 5 hrs getting it right and even pulled timing to ensure a safe tune and ended up with 432hp. WOW 370 also had his car tuned there and has twin turbo and pulled 464hp. The dyno used was set up for cars with 400+ so if you make it above that range you have a beast of a car. But with anything every dyno is different. To really know the difference in hp numbers from car to car you have to dyno on the same one with the same conditions so I take my numbers with a grain of salt.

wifedrivenZ 10-11-2012 01:05 PM

I have had my car on several dyno's. first time was on a mustang dyno doing 370whp. Next I was at Z1and I put down 386. That was with a stock tune from Stillen. With just a tune with 93 I should push more than 410whp.

I have also had my car on several different dynos. 410whp would be excellent on a mustang dyno. 460-470whp would be excellent on a dynojet.

EDIT:
but for this kit, what it really comes down to is torque, or lack thereof

Man looks like your Stillen tune was better than mine, LOL On my Stillen tune I made like 332 WHP :(. .Custom 93 tune made 412 WHP, Mustang Dyno,. On a custom 93 Tune with the impeller you should make more than 410WHP, an some TQ also.

So this is the best they could do. They say that they tuned the VVEL with a beta version of uprev SW and gained 15 extra HP in the mid range. My email address removed some of the files when the email came in so I will post the rest once they resend me the other Dyno sheets. Thanks all for your support. I will have the car back tonight and can tell you how it is running.

Oh I did keep the test pipes on the car.

weiboy718 10-12-2012 07:28 AM

You are running kinda lean buddy.

elperuano 10-12-2012 07:31 AM

Yea looks like ur a/f target is off some

ANMVQ 10-12-2012 07:51 AM

The WTRQ looks really good, Gives me hope for mine, but just a little LEAN :/.

The graph doesn't show any trq curve..... Also that's super lean. Should be around 11

Oh I did keep the test pipes on the car.

so tuners are already tuning the VVEL, Excellent and we do some good gains.

wifedrivenZ 10-12-2012 12:44 PM

I asked about the AFR and they said at that point it was in the 12's but it is at 11.8 while in boost. They will send me another DYNO sheet with a blown up view of the AFR.

Ok I just got my car back after two long weeks of waiting. Finished HP is 415 with 345 tq. I will have dyno sheets up on Monday. Oh FYI the car feels great!
