boosted z and this hot weather

just trying to get an idea on how every ones car has been holding up in this +90 heat
i cant get into boost yet til i get a tune but i noticed my intake is extremely hot to the touch even when i added ice to the intake (stillen supercharger intake )

when i had my mustang and a larger fmic even on hot days i could still touch the intake with out getting burned
this makes me think that the stillen air-water cooler is not to effective or it needs to be modifed
now i do have and oil cooler but i notice also that i was seeing just above 225 degrees when in traffic

I can barely touch my hoodstand on a bonestock car. I can't imagine an FI Z.

Well of course it's hot! The coolant doesn't run in that area and the only place the coolant runs thru is the secondary intercooler built inside of the intake manifold so basically anything before the intake manifold it will be "HOT".

On a hot start my intake temps are over 200 deg,it a real bitch to get it started but runs great with allot of power.

Traffic is always the worst with a boosted car, no air flowing through so you are just sucking in all the hot air from the ground and around your car.
When I use to drive over an hour home my temps would get close to 240 degrees in traffic, but now I never see that since I do not sit in traffic much anymore. Also, since you do not have a tune yet that is probably not helping. When you get one mention to them you want the radiator fans reduced so they kick on at a lower temp. Might lose a little MPG in traffic but overall it will help keep the car cooler.

It's a pain. What is that feeling you get when you press down the accelerator, feel the power, and then feel that it is being held back as if someone took their foot off the throttle?

LOL... you have this hot start issue as well? I wondered why it was so hard to get it started and maintain idle for a half a second on occasion, and I thought it was bad gas.

seymore4 08-13-2012 10:46 AM

When you get tuned make sure they set the fan control to engage at a lower temp as well (I'm assuming you'll go with Uprev), it'll help keep it cooler around town

Nissan370 08-14-2012 06:31 AM

Ya I am using uprev tune from the stock setup I just need to do the retune for this new low compression motor 9.1:1 cr should make a little let hp but it will be safer

Also will be doing 2 tunes one for water/meth and one without

If I keep out of it it will run fine with the A/C on but if I get on it then I can watch the oil temp and water temp raise really quick. Of course I have other issues but I could cook a steak in about 30 seconds on the hood when it was 100+ everyday.

ANMVQ 08-14-2012 03:39 PM

mine was ok, I could feel a it heat soaking sometimes tho, But thats normal, I had oil and trans temps around 180, With the Fan control set to turn them on at 180 instead of 215!

Wonder how things will work out once the temps are in the 60s and below. I have been pinching my pennies to get the UPREV Tuner license upgrade and pick up some cold weather maintenance items as well.

The car I just purchased had a hot start issue as well. Sam fixed it though and I have not seen it have any trouble yet. I have only driven it 3 times though. The A/C does not blow cold at a stop once it gets hot. If I get it to the tuner this week I will look into the fans coming on sooner.

I bag mine , hard, no matter how hot it is and I rarely see it over 220 , I also have my fender liners out but I have no oil cooler either , runs like a aped rape

Mr&Mrs 08-19-2012 08:19 PM

Well in Florida we are seeing temps over 100 with very high humidity. I doubt your car has been through this torture!
