Sam said in a post on page 1 bolt on's with out a tune. I can see this happening because it looks like he had just about every bolt on intake Long tubes exhaust.

This would lean the A/F out drive the car hard like this would be just asking for it.

Wow.. Amazing.. Sub'ed

+1 for more information on what led to engine failure in the first place. Just goes to show you that the couple hundred bucks for a tune is well worth it.

BigT 06-02-2012 08:56 AM

A lean AFR wouldn't cause that much damage. At worse, it would melt a few things. If the engine was pinging, it would have pulled timing until the pinging stopped. Unless he threw some 87 octane in there and went for a very very spirited run, but even then I don't think "that" much damage would be done.

I'm generally very very curious to hear what happened exactly.

Epic fail wow

They only way you will find out that info is if the owner post himself. Like you said he could have put some 87 in there and beat the piss out of it. Either way you can tell from the picture's detonation.

Maybe a 50 shot to lol

This car blew up.

I am very curious to see the results to have some idea where my car will fall.

Holy sh*t ! What the hell happened to the thing. Did he forget to up shift? Fascinating thread though, can't wait to see what you guys come up with.

MACSIMIZER 06-02-2012 09:46 AM

From the pic of the back of the crank it looks like some bolts came out and the others sheared off, probably under a load at high RPM's causing the engine to instantly overspeed and blow before the rev limiter could catch it.

Would a mishift from 3rd to 2nd at redline do this much damage?

KaienZ34 06-02-2012 01:36 PM

Looks like he had too much NOS!!!

Boost_lee 06-02-2012 01:50 PM

I'll guess overreved/mishift also

should be a fund build though
