Twin Turboed z's, what oil are you running?

Hey guys, I've got the GTM TT kit on my z and the oil cruising on the freeway gets to 235+! I used Mobil 1 synthetic 5w-30. I've been recommended to get the Nissan Ester oil, but can't seem to find a lot of information on it. Is anyone else having this issue and found a resolution? Thx!

You got a oil cooler?

No actually, I will be, however before the mobile 1 there didnt seem to be an issue w oil temp. It was nissans oil prior. I understand that the typical response would be just to go back to the nissan oil, but I really wanted to look at what others are running.

Ps. What oil coolers are the most recommended, especially when summer runs around here in AZ? This will be a must before summer rolls around and w the issue Im having now, probably sooner.

Being on this forum for over a year, I have seen that it doesn't really matter what type of oil you use as far as oil temp goes. Get an oil cooler. It's possible also that since getting the TT kit, you're probably driving your car a bit harder thus the higher temp. Get an oil cooler

I am Not TT'ed but I like to run road courses. I run a Z1 34 Row oil cooler.
Z1 Motorsports 370Z/G37 Oil Cooler Kit

I run Mobil 1 Extended Performance. On the track, and after a 20 min session of Hard running I see just over 200 degrees.

I highly recommend a oil cooler since your TT'ed.

Chad

cdoxp800- why use the extended performance? you change your oil every 15k miles?

No, ever 4K. For me it's better for High temps. I could used Reg Mobil One, but It's just my preference.

Thx for the recommendation. Thats where I will start for the oil cooler. Thx again chad!

my 450whp 300zx TT barely breaks 190 in normal driving. Factory oil cooler ftw :p

Ron 11-14-2011 05:06 PM

I am actually surprised you are not seeing higher temps on a TT car. 235 is not that bad, I've seen people hit that while NA.

Ron 11-14-2011 05:07 PM

oh and...

:worthless:

JB-370z 11-14-2011 05:32 PM

I never ever go over 190-210 going off my HKS Camp2, which gives more updated readings. Thats even when I rip on it time and time again. Some folks on here don't believe me, thats fine. I have 3 buddies w/370z that are supercharged and their temps get sky high.

Mobile 1 is what I use, its a great oil.

That high though, while just cruising on the freeway at 3k rpms? It seems 210-220 is what I've been seeing as the normal temps. Im just going to go get a damn oil cooler. I need one anyway bc of how hot it gets here in az. I really like the zr1 motorsports, or even the stillen kit

Ron 11-14-2011 06:22 PM

What was the ambient temp? GTMs 34row oil cooler is the exact same thing as Z1s and its cheaper.

JB-370z 11-14-2011 10:25 PM

I have the largest oil cooler GTM carries. I think it is a must no matter what mods you run.

Seb@SZ 11-14-2011 10:58 PM

The new GTM radiator also does an excellent job of keeping both the coolant and oil temps down on the turbo'ed and sc'ed cars.

Ron 11-14-2011 11:01 PM

is it out already?

Seb@SZ 11-14-2011 11:41 PM

You'll have to check with Sam to be sure.

DIGItonium 11-15-2011 08:22 AM

Wow, does your throttle lag at 235F? The highest I've seen is 215F with mine. Once fully warmed up, it's around 195-205 (at most).

GeauxTigers1 11-25-2011 10:13 PM

Went w a 34row Z1 oil cooler w all the goods...w/ their black friday sale, NO WAY could I pass it up ;) Excited for when it gets here. Also purchased their clutch/flywheel combo....Im a little worried, but I think its just bc the price is so cheap! Almost like a "too good to be true" type thing, but I hope not! Thx again for all the info guys

GeauxTigers1 11-25-2011 10:16 PM

I have the stage two gtm running the z1 cluch and flywheel. Blew a full face apart so I went with the 6 puck disk and I have no problems. I have 542 rwhp. Z1 oil cooler is a must. Mine gets tracked on road course and drag. When it gets hot dont be suprised when your ac kicks off. Make sure you get a radiator too man. Heat is bad on these cars. I loive in New Orleans so the heat kills out here.

Ron 11-26-2011 06:51 PM

Yeah a big oil cooler and radiator will be a necessity if tracking. I'm waiting on more info from GTM on their radiator.

Thats awesome news to here my man! Im originally from Hammond which is right outside Baton Rouge (you had to of slightly known w my username). I was concerned, but now Im much happier that someone else has had a good experience w it! Its not a DD and I've been boosted before and just know that you can't have as much fun when its 115 outside and we are talking a dry heat so theres no cooling it down :/

LafitteZ 11-27-2011 09:17 AM

yea I live on the westbank in NO. I go to hammond every now and then its acually where i bought my 370. the z is my dd so you should definitly be good. yea i figured thats what ya name was meant for but ya never know nowadays. I really want to get the radiator and thermostat. The car when it was NA kinda spoiled me because I had the big oil cooler and all and it ran so cool. The ac was real cold and the car ran really smooth and no worries so im trying to get it back down to those temps with the turbos. **** with the humidity out here If I didnt have a vented hood it would run hot. My ac kicks off and everything. once I put the vented hood on its at really nice temps now but it still gets hot when humity and heat is up.
