No. $3k is correct and appropriate. In fact, mine cost me more.

kosstick 09-22-2011 04:39 PM

Twin turbo installs cost more.

theDreamer 09-22-2011 05:08 PM

Well it depends on what kit, TT or SC?
Also, any extras being installed?

pyrrhus17 09-22-2011 06:53 PM

No extras just the kit

NYBladeZ 09-22-2011 08:57 PM

wow 3k is alot, then again TT installs are intense you can check out a few people who installed it themselves to see how labor intensive it is. Thus far my buddy and I have done all the work ourselves, the TT will be a big long time project.

Well, I did my own install and it took me about 75 hours. That is working alone and having never done one before. Thats only $40 per hour.

Seriously though, I bet a competent shop would take anywhere from 20-30 hours to install so you're looking at $100-$150 per hour. A bit high not unreasonable. This is for a TT install.

Brazilbro 09-22-2011 09:27 PM

My dude will do it for 2k

SPOHN 09-22-2011 09:34 PM

$2400 is about right for install only

kosstick 09-22-2011 11:34 PM

Specialty Z is $1800 for a SC

The big question you have to ask about the $3000 quote you were given.... is the *installer* worth $3000? Because most shops, I wouldnt let anywhere near these cars. 9 out of 10 are going to completely hack up your car, and you wouldnt want them to even attempt to tune it themselves because they will just blow it up.

If it doesn't take a full week of a qualified tech working on your car every day (twin turbo), then I would seriously question the quality of the work. Anyone at home can just bolt up the kit out of the box and call it done, but there are soooo many extra steps that a good and experienced performance tech will take that is going to make it take considerably more time.

Any full day of heavy work on a car like this is easily worth $500, and after the week I believe it should take, $3000 sounds perfect. Just make sure you're not giving $3000 to some clowns to hack up your car. Someone who installs the same kit regularly may be able to do it quite well in a little less time.. but that does not earn the customer a savings. Just like at a car dealership, you pay a rate for a job... if the shop/installer is efficient enough to do it just as well a day or two sooner, that doesn't mean the job is worth less.

MAF car... a turn key kit on a stock engine should require little to no additional tuning. Depending who the tuner is going to be, its very likely that they will do more harm than good.
