STILLEN Obtains 50-State Legal Status For 370Z/G37 Supercharger
STILLEN is proud to announce that the 370Z/G37 Supercharger System has gone through all of the testing, and has been approved by C.A.R.B. and is now certified as 50-state smog/emissions legal!
For over 25 years STILLEN has been recognized as a leader in Nissan/Infiniti tuning. With a history of setting “first time” milestones in the aftermarket for these great vehicles, STILLEN has established themselves as the company to follow when it comes to Nissan and Infiniti product development. STILLEN was the first company to develop the HICAS eliminator system for the 300ZX Z32 platform. When the Z33 350Z was introduced, STILLEN was once again the leader with the first forced induction solution, as well as the first to offer CARB legality, and AGAIN the first with a 3-year/36,000 mile engine warranty.
Well, STILLEN has done it again as Team STILLEN is proud to announce the CARB approval of the Nissan 370Z (Z34) G37 Supercharger Kit.
STILLEN has not only been the first company to achieve CARB legality of a forced induction solution on the VQ37, we have also been the first company to achieve such an accomplishment while tuning through Nissan’s sophisticated ECU with larger injectors. This is a major accomplishment for Team STILLEN and one that will join the many other first time landmarks STILLEN has achieved in the Nissan/Infiniti tuning world.
CARB (California Air Resources Board) is the division of the California state government that controls all aspects of air quality and standards. With standards getting stricter it is getting more and more difficult to achieve CARB legality. CARB is recognized as the toughest emissions control in the country and is therefore recognized in all 50 states as an emissions standard for all performance parts. If a performance part achieves CARB legality, it is recognized as 50-state legal.
The power the STILLEN Supercharger system delivers is dramatic, taking the factory 3.7L V6 from 332hp to over 500hp! The system is designed to work with both automatic and 6-speed vehicles, including convertible and AWD models.
The STILLEN VQ37 Supercharger features a new cast aluminum intake manifold engineered specifically for this kit, complete air-to-water intercooler system, and boost is derived from a Vortech V-3 Supercharger unit. The V-3 features a quiet V-belt design, and a self-contained oiling system for easy maintenance.
In the past year STILLEN has shipped supercharger systems around the world. Fantastic reviews and reports are coming in from:
Australia
New Zealand
Singapore
Russia
Thailand
Korea
Canada
Switzerland
Taiwan
France
United Arab Emirates
China
Hong Kong
United Kingdom
Not to mention all of the kits that have been installed with great success across the United States at Nissan/Infiniti dealerships and performance shops. This is a bolt-on system, capable of being installed by any qualified ASE-certified automotive performance shop, or at hundreds of Nissan and Infiniti dealerships across the country, or right here at STILLEN at our in-house install facility.
Once again, STILLEN has successfully accomplished all of its goals with another great forced induction solution for the Nissan/Infiniti vehicles.
STILLEN 3.7L Supercharger System Features Include:
Vortech V-3 Centrifugal Supercharger Unit
STILLEN purpose designed cast aluminum intake manifold with long runners for increased torque
Installs under the stock hood - No modifications needed
Complete system includes pre-assembled Vortech V-3 supercharger assembly, air intake with polished air charge pipe and genuine K&N intake filters, fuel injectors, air-to-water intercooler, UpRev ECU Tuning cable/software and detailed installation instructions.
Congrats and good to see you guys posting on this board again!

Congrats on the accomplishment. This really is a difficult thing to pull off. Now the onus is on GTM to match.

Anyway I can have that "carb certified" tune? My car belchous so much carbon out the tail pipes that it covers the rear of the car and it's quite difficult to clean off. I can't imagine the "Stillen" tune I have would pass a California emissions tests.
I might add that I like many others on this board when having tune issues was initially contacted by Josh at Stillen and then nothing, they never followed through and had someone call me to address the hot start issue I have.

Is the approval considered backwards compatable? And if so, is there some sort of sticker you have to display?

NO. The CARB certification process is completed using our canned tune. We will only be including CARB decals with complete tuned kits. Tuner kits will not be receiving CARB decals.

We have a procedure in place to aid customers who have already purchased the kit and are looking to get a CARB decal.

How much horsepower is produced with your canned tune?

I'm thinking of buying the stillen s/c, but I have a couple questions. Is the warranty transferable after a private sale, how does it perform with the FI LTHs and would I need a different belt to work with the NST underdrive crank pulley and overdrive alternator pulley? Thanks

1) The warranty extends to the original owner.
2) We have not tested a vehicle equipped with the FI long tubes however I see no reason as to why they would have any major drawback. This blower is more than capable and could easily be spun a little faster if you did experience any significant drop in boost.
3) We do not recommend any make underdrive pulley. An underdrive pulley will do just that...underdrive your supercharger. If you do want to run lightweight pullies only O.E. sizes are recommended.

We have a program in place that supports people who already have the kit installed on their vehicles. If you're purchasing a kit new, then yes every kit (other than tuner kits) will be shipped with a CARB decal.

Generally speaking we're seeing around 400-420 at the tires. There are variables such as automatic to manual transmissions, wheel weights, altitude, air temp. etc. that will affect final power output but on average it's between 400-420 wheel horsepower.

So in essence, one would see between 460HP and 470HP at the flywheel without out any additional bolt-ons, is this correct? If so, at what boost level? Do you have any dyno results you could post? Lastly, what is the estimated HP one would expect to see with an aftermarket exhaust and intake. My goal is to achieve 500 HP (at the flywheel of course) with the supported mods listed above. Is this achievable with your kit and associated canned tune?
Thanks!

The supercharger comes with an intake system, you'd need to remove (but could also sell yours) it with the supercharger install.
The STILLEN supercharger will provide approx 500+ HP to the flywheel with the CARB/Smog Legal version and the canned tune. These results do include having a cat-back system. The system is set at ~8lbs of boost.

Did you achieve these results on the CARB tune, or did you need a custom tune?

/\ Didn't know this system was supported under the Nissan warranty, I have been stalking this upgrade for about 1 month. This info may just push me over the edge.

I think that's incorrect. I believe Stillen offers an additional warranty at an additional price. Nissan is not in the habit of warranting aftermarket parts.

Good to know! I just checked out their website, the warranty is conditional; they pay up to a $5k on the engine and $3k for the drive-line, anything after that and you're on your own.

Is the Stillen exhaust also CARB legal? and if so, would it still be legal with the supercharger kit?
Kyle@STILLEN
01-24-2013 09:52 AM
Cat-back exhaust systems do not need to go through any CARB legality testing. Adding a cat-back exhaust system to your supercharged Z is a great way to free up some more power and increase the overall performance of your car.

Hi togehter
We have also in Switzerland the CARB (DTC) document received for the STILLEN kit!
A very difficult process and involves very high costs!
Thanks for the Support of STILLEN and the great teamwork!
